yep been down to car looking for "SRS AirBag" labels in my car just before & found correct foe a ES anyway..

Only old ES don't have side airbags.

All Lancers have had 7 airbags for years.

I think you're right Brendan.

But the original poster's car is a 2011 SX. So she'll have 7 airbags anyway.

Until mid-late 2009, ES Lancers didn't have side and curtain airbags.

You can try other racing seat brands like Cobra, Sparco and Corbeau. There are some products in their lineup that also have side airbags.

If you're going to query with insurance, always ask for something in writing if your seat mods are acceptable so that you have something on hand should you need to make a claim later on. Call centre operators will just tell you anything, and when trouble comes, it can be really big.

Shouldnt the US passenger seat be like the AU drivers seat since they have left hand drives? haha

You would need to mount them on the same side as they would be mounted on in a US car, but you would need to remove the weight sensor from the right seat to the left seat. You can't simply swap the seats because the seat belt clasp is on the wrong side.

Short answer NO The car is certified with these safety items you cannot remove or modify them in any way.
