MUT3 - finally!
Just so you guys know .... I finally bit the bullet and shelled out for a MUT3 diagnostic and reprogramming tool of my own.
So i no longer have to borrow one to do the things we do with a MUT3
(and thanks very much to the people who lent one to me - you know who you are)
I got it to further my understanding of SST programming and behaviour, so i can do soem more experimenting on my own car when i want to, rather than relying on getting the gear from third parties all the time.
So if you're on CCJ and have any flavour of Lancer, and want diagnostic feedback or reprogramming done, I'll be happy to help you guys out.
I'm not saying I'll be able to fix it if a fault is found - but i may be able to tell you what it is and point you in the right direction!

irving - yeah i'm looking into the CVT stuff. it looks tough, though. I might need you to crack some hex for me to really start sorting that out - but i did find (accidentally) a way to change the cruise ratio on CVT so the rest *might* be possible, one day.
Marcus - the LC rev limit has been bugging us for a while now. if myself or anyone else figures it out they will be Mr Popular in the SST world for sure!
right now we haven't nutted it out, but we are pretty sure it's hard coded into the SST firmware (rather than the ECU).
We can currently swap around firmware, but we can't "see" inside the various firmwares to play with them. The coding is very different to the ecu coding, and i must admit i'm not clever enough to crack it.

also I've been doing some research on flashing Evo MRs with different SST firmware (from later models) with mixed but encouraging results. which WON'T void your warranty heheh

1362kb from memory Dave
I'm happy to send you the files if you like. There's been a few guys try and unravel them but apparently the container is a tough nut to crack... quite unlike the ecu roms.

Yeah, these are virtual ratios anyway, so they're only pre-programmed and in theory can be altered. The only problem I can see is how to get into the computer that controls the CVT and tap its algorithm, currently the same issue with the SST despite the availability of the MUT3.
It would be nice to have six short ratios for performance driving, then for a cruise, just leave it in D to get excellent economy.

Any idea what programming language they used for the TCU?

^^ not sure. no one seems to know!
Well Windows 8 was a fail
so the old dinosaur XP laptop is the MUT machine, and it all works well
Have tested it recoding VINs, flashing SST, running diagnostics and clearing codes - all good and ready to roll.

I think a good start would be if the transmission is actually manufactured by Mitsubishi or by another company (getrag \ ZF, etc )
Model and serial numbers printed\ etched on the transmission would help otherwise we will need to take apart the transmission and take photos of all the circuits PCB's.
If we find the manufacturer we might be able to get basic info on some of the tools that they use to program it.
As the MUT is only used to flash it.
