Anyone here serviced their Lancer before?
Hey guys
Mums car is due for its 75,000km service and to save a bit of $$ I'll just service it myself for her on the weekend
as far as I'm aware the 75k is just an oil and filter change which is probably gonna be pretty straight forward
are there any special tips or tricks to doing it? anything else worth checking while im doing it? I'll check the condition of the spark plugs and make sure they're okay but being iridium they should have a bit of life left in them.
Is it easy to reach the sump plug under the car without any jacks?
What oil is best to use, semi or fully synthetic?

I've done the 45,000 service on exaltd's car.
You will at least need to put your car up on mounts to get this done.
Not difficult to reach but its a bitch to loosen out the sump plug without the right type of spanner.
Super Cheap I think is having a sale on Castrol Edge Sport 5W-30. I think that is already VERY GOOD for our NA Lancer.

Ahh okay cool cheers, I don't have mounts but I have two car jacks so I'll do a dodgy and put one on each side and hope they dont break while im under the car.
Is it a special type of spanner or is it just a weird size?
Awesome, I think i'll pick up some of that oil on the weekend when i service it.
Also, the washer for the sump plug can I buy a generic one from supercheap or is it best to buy from Mitsu? I'm guessing its one of the ones that 'crushes' when you tighten it to create a better seal?

The sump plug is just at a bitch angle and the surroundings make it hard to spanner out. So it needs a kind of spanner. Exaltd can fill in the gaps.
You are after the washer or gasket. Not the sump plug itself.
The sump plug washer is about A$1.10 via CCJ or A$1.80 RRP as LZY EYE pointed out.

I'll swing into the mitsu dealership on the way home and get a washer, i might get a filter too as long as it isn't overpriced
When I serviced my R1 the oil filter was behind the exhaust headers and the radiator piping was also to the side so it was a mission and a half to get that out, it took me about 4 hours just to remove the oil filter.. and two trips to supercheap! then I found out that the sump plug had been helicoiled which broke as i took the plug out so i had to buy a brand new sump.. (it may of damaged it when I crash i suspect because it's been serviced once before with the helicoil)
but anyway I'll let you know how the service goes

I've done my 60k and 75k myself. There's not a lot to it, and if you've done car stuff before I'm sure you'd be fine. I had to use an oil filter tool to get it off the first time, and it's a bit tight for room in there, but that's about it.

Cool, I haven't really played with engines much but servicing can't be too hard, it's not like i'm rebuilding it or anything
Picked up all the stuff yesterday but it started bucketing down so I didn't have a chance to do it, hopefuly it won't rain today and I can get it done after work this afternoon

Serviced it today, whole thing was pretty easy except for the sump plug.. it was on so tight i'm surprised it wasnt threaded!
Did all the work under the car without raising it, changed the oil, oil filter & wiped blades.. checked all the other stuff and topped up fluids and it's all good again

The book has to be stamped or signed off by a registered mechanic
If it's under warranty it's best to have it done by the dealer or authorised mechanic.
But you can DIY service so much cheaper
I service my bike every 3-5k km and service my Z4 every 5,000km
