speechless - someone scratched my passenger door

Postby Neo » Fri Aug 10, 2012 6:40 pm

i went to work today and as per usual i parked at the very end of the car park away from everyone. When i finished my shift i noticed a old rusty supra parked next to me with no license plates.. i thought this was strange as there were hundreds of spots available why next to me?
then i took a closer look, the idiot scratched my passenger door :'( and dented it, i assume he/she opened the door to far -.-
I took photos but there was nothing i could really do since the idiot took off his/her plates :\
Just to make you all feel better knowing how crap my day was :)

Yeah would've tried to check for a rego sticker at the very least, but I think WA have done away with rego stickers now.
If the damage was severe, or enough for a insurance claim, then I would've called the cops as a civil complain, get a couple of the local constables to come, have a look, take details of the car and see if they could run a check. There can't be too many supras around in your local area. Once the punch in color, make, model they can whittle down a list. Cops wont give the details to you, they might follow up with a visit to the registered address later and see if the same car is there. Insurance company can take the police incident report # and do the chasing...

However sounds like the damage is minimal.... so no big worry there.

Not quite correct, they will only do the chasing if you have the driver at faults details, not just the car...

My brand new 6 month old DC5R got side slammed by a car going the other direction, I had multiple witness, REG plate of the car, reported it straight away to the police, the police visited the residence and reported the car at the address but guess who got stiffed with the excess because 'the driver at fault' could not be identified!!

Really?
In this day and age, where getting snapped by a speed camera or red light camera, it is automatically assumed that the registered owner of the car was the "driver" and the onus is on the registered owner to sign a stat dec to state who was the driver if indeed it was not them.

Besides the insurance policy is tied to the vehicle not the driver. If ANY driver has an accident in a car (even if it's not the policy holder) the insurance still stands. So I find it odd that your insurance company did not push back on the other car's insurance company. Unless of course the other car was uninsured, then that's a whole different ball game!
