Hey Steve I got the RAW files for all my pics if you need them. All I did was upload them on photobucket so Im not sure how the "shape" changed.

modern cameras do widescreen images which are fine if u leave crap on the ends so they can be cropped to the old television shape which is the shape of the calendar pages.
not your fault mate, its the camera, if u fill the viewfinder with the object of interest the aspect will not suit, so leave a border of wastage
