Paypal Scam - Beware!

Postby alterego13 » Sat Jul 14, 2012 10:47 pm

Just got this in the email... and I almost clicked on the 'update' button.
Then realized I don't have this email account attached to Paypal...and then noticed the signs of a trap!! i.e "Dear Customer" instead of my name...
So just putting it out there...be careful :)

Did it arrive in your emails or in your junk box? Pretty serious stuff because pay pal is just like a credit card.

Was in my Inbox as well.
And the title was 'Online Access to your account has been limited'
Finely crafted I must say!

Thanks for the Heads-Up on this scam Ravi
It's always welcome when another member spots and informs others of potential scams such as this.

Many of us trade on Ebay & use PayPal as the preferred choice of payment, however not all of us are Astute all of the time, and can often be unintentionally entrapped in this type of devious activity.

It's a worthwhile post and I definitely see no reason for any Admin to delete your attention to it, rather I commend you for posting it.

Thanks for posting this up. I agree with Sam. Definitely worth letting others know about it.

Last year I got one from Western Union on something like this. Except i dont have a Western Union account... Bit of a fail on their part. But might want to watch out for that too just in case.

just an FYI .

if you use Gmail next to the reply button there is a drop down menu and a button called show original which usually shows the message headers so you can track down where an email comes from. very handy if you're as paranoid as me :)

If there was truly an issue, then just go directly to the Paypal website and login from there. That's probably the besy way to avoid being directed to dodgy links.

Thanks Sam. I have learnt a lot from this forum...and like to give back to community wherever I can & whenever I can :)

Yes..I always check the email source. But in moments of paranoia...when you read "Your Paypal account access has been limited" and think "oh crap..what happened there??"...we tend to make mistakes...and that's what these scumbags are targeting.
So just be wary everyone :) This is just 1 example out of millions!!
