Centre Console Question + iPod connectivity

Postby chunky9 » Mon Jun 04, 2012 1:07 am

Hey guys,
just a question. How would i go about removing this little blank plate. Im assuming its held in by 2 clips at the back, but im not sure and i dont want to break anything. Ive been searching for info to remove that part of the console but havent had any luck yet. Ive though about just wedging a flat head in there and prying it out but again don know how its held in lol. Or removing that side panel closest to the glove box would be great. Im trying to route my ipod cable from the glove box to where the blanking plate is. Any help would be great, thanks! :)
Excuse the dodgy pictures lol

can u lift it up or is it one piece? if u want to remove it the best way is to take apart Ur centre console and pop it out from the back to avoid any damage done from popping it out with a flat head screw driver

just basicly pull it up from the bottom, it should pull out, otherwise pull it from the sides.

It might be a bit tight the first time you do it, but its gets easier each time you do it.

Its hard to break that thing anyway haha

/sexual innuendo.

It does just clip in with a clip each side, I took mine out to put av sockets in but pushed from the back. It is a fairly tight fit

Thanks heaps for the help guys. Thought I'd do a little follow up.
The reason i wanted to take out the part was so that i could route the ipod cable from the glove box there and put and iphone dock where that was. Had a look on ebay and found one. When i measured up the specifications it was almost an exact fit, the dock just being a little bigger than the coin bin thingy lol. So heres what i got:

Its a pretty snug fit, didnt have to use any glue as its held in tightly by the plastic. Might add some blue tack or something for safety lol.I was going to drill a hole in the little plate, but i actually dont mind it that much.

The USB iPod connectivity in the lancer however is pretty much a sack of shit lol. When i plug it in it gets stuck on the 'iPod load' screen for anywhere between 5-15 mins and when it actually does start playing, when i select a song it plays a completely different song. So right now im streaming my music over bluetooth and using the dock for charging purposes. Anyone else have this problem? I did some research and i think the problem is possibly because i have a large music library (20gb+) and it takes teh car time etc to process it, which i understand, but is pretty gay at the same time.

EDIT: I thought i was a genius for thinking of this, but as i was going through tadzors thread i saw he had basically done the same thing haha

Considering that the car is now nearly 5 yrs old, you should expect that someone has thought of it before you.
