Looking at buying a Skyline

I'm in the market for a Skyline (for RWD drifting) at the moment. The lancer will receive propper attention and be our show car/daily driver (our show car) and I want a Skyline for the "fun car".

I've found one, made an offer for $10k

It's a white 1996 NISSAN SKYLINE R33 GTS-T Series II
107,000 km
2dr 5 seat coupe
5 speed manual
RWD
2.5L V6 intercooled turbo
Registered Till 24/8/09
8 month old Tien Pro Custom Coilover Suspension
Aftermarket Bonet
Aftermarket wing
Touch Screen Cd Player
Door Splits + Alpine V12 Amp
Momo Steering Wheel
Viper alarm system
100% Magnesium Alloy Drift Rims
3 1/4" Exhaust + Apexi Canon
Just had the Timing Belt done at 100,000.
Slight Noise From the lifters, will replace all lifters befre sale.

I believe the R33's have about 182 kW and 294 Nm. (it has an RB25 DET)


My intentions were to buy a car for $10k, then do it up and thrash it, but it seems like I've found a bit of a gem. It's in excellent condition, to the point where I'd almost feel bad about thrashing it (almost :P)

Note: I'm buying it as a second car with drifting on the track in mind.

What do you all think?

That is outstanding find man you should def get it, sus out situation when you get it and make decsion on wheather your going to thrash it or thrash it hard lol

Sorry dude, just needed to be said! The Skyline craze has passed and thats why there are plenty of cheap (good) deals around to be found.
96 Series 2 (Good choice, the series 1 had problems) is a great car, cheap mods and parts, cheap to insure and service, and the car is pretty bullet-proof!! The downside - Every wannabe has one and think they're the sh*t!!!! Females don't even think much of these cars now-a-days as people have moved on to a new type of car. You will get all kinds of replys to this thread, people who like them, and people who will condemn them, but most importantly everyone on this site is a CJ Lancer / Ralliart owner, so I wouldn't think many of them would like to change to a skyline anytime soon......(I know you have a lancer, glad to hear it or otherwise u'd be kicked off a CJ site for asking about skylines!!!!) Just my 2 cents!
BTW - That car sounds like a decent bargain.....just do a check on engine number and any damage that has happened to it in its life. Find out whether the car was recently imported, or has had 5 or 6 owners. DO YOUR RESEARCH!!!! and have fun!!!! :D

Yeah i agree with azza, its a good price. but its such a generic car, everyone has one. nothing sets them apart from the rest. I personally think the skyline is a solid car no doubt, i just hate them because everyone has them and they all look the same. Everyone slaps a body kit on them and throws some wheels on and call it 'unique'.

But if your gunna be thrashing the shit outa it definitlty go for it, skylines can take a beating.

You dont use a commodore for drifting. Although you can, its not the most ideal car for it.

Biggest problem with the jap imports are the computers, If its not running a decent computer make sure thats your first upgrade. Skylines have been done to death for drift but that makes it easier for you to get the right setup the first time saving money. You should take the time to speak to the boys at predator motorsport in brissy before you buy It will have you pointing in the right direction from go.

Yea, I don't care much for looks, or how I look in the car, or what anyone thinks of me driving the car; I just want to get it sideways.

I also really dislike Commo's and Falcons with a passion; just personal preference (heavy car etc.)

It's a 6 cylinder Unleaded Intercooled Turbo 2.5L (2498cc). I'm not sure if it's a v6 or a straight. What's the difference? (I know the physical difference, but what's the performance etc.?) I do know it's an RB25DET though.

I'm checking it out on sat. Hopefully it should be all good and I'll be tearing up a track near you!

rb25 are straight 6, go for it if u want but i perfer a silvia for a drift car they are lighter and have better handling,

Yeah my money is on it being an RB25DET, which is a straight 6 single turbo.. That's what R33's got.

R33 skyline doesn't come in a V6. Only Turbo and N/A versions of the RB25. I'm pretty sure only the R35 comes in a V6 setup.
