LED rear light issue

Postby fluery » Mon May 14, 2012 12:31 pm

Hi All

Need help with some rear lights I bought. the boot mounted lights have the wrong connector for the lights to connect to the car loom. reverse light is ok as it retained th esame connections.

could I splice the wires from the unit onto the loom without issue? or should i get an electirician to change the connectors for the matching kind?

cheers

Why is it so hard to post a link to the seller you bought from ?

It will make it easier for those with knowledge here to solve your problem ...

why is it important who the seller is? these were a one off sale by a seller called HIDLIGHTS. he only had two sets of these for sale and no has none.

knowing who the seller is doesnt fix the problem does it.? its a case of what can I do about the wiring?

I suspect why did not mention the seller and pictures initially was the though to be exclusive. Afraid others might copy.

I've heard of this problem actually - re mismatched connectors.

The reason is MARS produces tail lamps for the Chinese market and the connector you have there is for the China made Lancer.

I wouldn't worry too much. Just follow the wiring convention and just plug the necessary wire to the appropriate color on the loom.
If you need pin connections, just visit your local jaycar.

You don't need an exact plug for it to work.

So .. you need to identify which wire goes where for both tail lights ...

cut the plug off the ebay light, and use these http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=HP1206 to connect to your original harness.

This gives you the option of replacing your original lights if you sell the car.

good idea but the lights on the boot lid (red lights not reversing) only have two wires going to the globe holder, black and black/white, which one is the live wire? I assume its the black/white?.

the ebay unit has three wires, again I only assume the black wire is the earth. would it be safe to do all this as a trial and error exercise?
