nah... just tell him you're testing a lot of tuning options and need lots of plugs!

its interesting that NGK actually list a hotter plug for them. FR5EI as opposed to the 6.

For the 2.4 yeah it's the 5.

The listing for the 2.0 is actualy different

hmm... wonder why they do that considering they are supplying the standard plugs for the 2.0.

might have to look further into that.

I found that Adrian's plugs were nicely coloured, not too richly deposited, unlike mine... hence my purchase of one heat range hotter... I opted for the IX, because of cost and the fact I will change them twice a year (irrespective of considered life length).

I checked them today Adrian, they are nicely coloured after some spirited driving in the hinterland area.. my fuel economy was the worst I have seen thus far, due to my desire to climb 25% hills quicker than an F14 on afterburn....

Plugs looked good...

in trying to cross reference it still stuck as NGK doesn't have a crossover on the website for the laser iridium's so how they ended up changing the listings is a mystery.

should find any iridium plug to run well though. they stay alot cleaner than the normal plugs.

anybody have any advice on fitting fr5ei-13 iridium plugs to my 2.4? guy at service store said they 'should be better' but just a bit of paranoia setting in...

We need to put a stop to this.

Installing a new set off spark plugs will always give you better performance for the first 100km or so. Then it becomes the same as your current ones.

Spark plugs are made to last 100,000km.

The only boost you got is that they are new.

As with all performance mods, if you install them but do not tune the car to take the new mods into consideration, you don't get much out of it.

Agreed Ofey.

As long as you install the correctly matched spark plug to what was already installed to your car (regardless of brand) - or for that matter whatever exceeds (irridium already - so nothing much could be any 'better'), you should not find any performance loss. Only a very temporary performance gain from having new spark plugs. After which, they all become the same without any tuning modifications.

Just make sure when installing spark plugs to check the gap and check that they are irridiums.
