I said DO NOT buy one. You'll regret it.

Like clockwork after you buy the car, take it home, drive it around, go for a meet, you will hate yourself for buying one.

trust me.
all of us have rued the day we bought a Lancer.

I don't hate myself. I love it. Feel very safe in it. Driven in heavy rain with my 7 year old son and felt safe.

With a Lancer,

You spend more on mods as the aftermarket scene is just so comprehensive.
You then hate yourself because you don't have more money to do the things you want to do.
and
You hate yourself that you couldn't afford just that little bit more to get a turbo-ed Ralliart model.
and
1 - 2 yrs later you wish you had just jumped into an Evo X.

My Lancer fits 5 people in it easily, and even though I have the 2.0L VRX the fuel consumption is really low, I can get from the gold coast to port macquarie and drive around there for a week on 1 tank ($65-$80 PULP depending on price per L)

my first brand new car, is my sx, 2011 manual, its stock, and i keep up with my brother bf xr6, and my car churps second easy as and not clutching the crap out of it, and i only got an exhaust on it, and it flys, so glad i bought it over buying a bf xr6. drove both and liked the lancer better.

My family has a 09 Aspire and a 04 Verada.

The Lancer is an awesome car that's great value, I just love the look of it.
It's design is quite different from that of a Mazda 3 or a Cruze, which is great because I hate those two cars!

It gets great fuel economy too, but what other people say here suggests that it might vary a bit for each car.

For the suspension, I actually prefer the softer ride of the Verada.
I don't get to drive the Lancer much, but the Verada is a lot nicer on the roads around here.

Not sure of the practical everyday advantages of RWD, I think the drive should be where the engine is.

Edit: lol at ofey

Unless you plan on getting the tail end out through every corner, a FWD should be more then sufficient. And they're quite torquey little cars. So very easy to drive.
