Introduce myself! - woodduck

Postby woodduck » Wed Feb 01, 2012 9:28 pm

Hello everyone! Been a member for a bit but thought it was about time to introduce myself!

My name is Carl I'm 22 and I'm from a rural city in Victoria called Mildura. I've recently (late last year) bought a MY10 Lancer Ralliart. She's black, with the leather, sat nav, rockford fosgate system and reverse camera. And mainly, i love it to bits!

Although I'm only 22 i've had quite a few cars, started with a Calibra. Went to a VT commodore, back to a calibre, on to a VZ calais and then realised i was doing it all wrong and went Jap  I bought a MY06 Subaru Liberty 6 speed 3R spec B. I did quite a bit to it, lowered it (tein springs) put 19" Kahn RSV rims. Custom mufflers, an STi tune, short shifter and the list goes on. Unfortunately that year model 3L engine seemed to have a ninja of a oil pressure problem so me and a heap of other people with the same year car kept getting pinging and stalling prolbems on and off...it got to the point where i couldn't trust it so i made the decision to sell it. I tell you, i still miss it!

Thats when i bought the ralliart! As much as i miss the liberty, i wouldn't give up the ralliart for it. I just wish i could have both haha. i don't have any MAJOR plans for the ralliart (i promised i wouldn't mod this one after the crappy ride i ended up with with my liberty being lowered in 19" wheels). All i really want to do it give it a bit of sound out the back, a tune (nothing too crazy) and some rims and springs. Whats the cheapest place to get springs? (nothing too low).

Me myself, i work for my parents in their motorbike business of 16 years. We sell dirt bikes and ATV/UTVs. We stock Husaberg, Husqvarna and CFmoto. I am really into photography (always have been) and am trying to crack into the photography game part time.

Thats about it for me! I've been on a lot of forums before so hopefully you guys are just as much fun :)

(Hopefully photos soon)

Welcome Carl and I think that's the best intro I have come across. Very informative and good luck with the Ralliart.
I had Pedders springs fitted at $620 it's around 35mm lower than stock.
Eibach are also a popular spring and from reports give a comfortable ride even after being lowered.

Hey Carl, nice intro. I told myself I wasn't going to mod my RA when I first bought it, gut that only lasted about a week. Whenever you are in Melbourne one weekend, let us know, I've got a set of TMR Springs in my garage (they were great but I just wanted lower). We can test fit to your car, that way if you don't like em, at least you can cross that brand off your list. I'm not selling them by the way (and no I'm not giving them away either *tongue* ). As far as tuning is concern, yes! Once tuned, It becomes a beast, you'll be surprised what you gain with just a tune.

Thanks everyone! Micheal, that would be fantastic! I'll let you know for sure! Ryan dont tempt me even more than i already am haha. Unfortunately the ralliart has come at an inconvenient time ...i just bought myself an older house at the same time that i got the ralliart..so atm all my spare cash is going into the house...but hopfully not much longer, ive finished both bathrooms, the kitchen, all 4 bedrooms, the sunroom and lounge, dining and office...now it's just some landscaping and some paint for the outside :) After that, the lancer will take priority!

I forgot to mention that when i bought the ralliart the gearbox was stuffed. It was the first DSG that i had driven so when i test drove it i figured that must have been how was supposed to feel. But it got worse over the first couple of weeks...ended up getting the Mitsubishi dealers workshop manager who owns an Evo X with the DSG to drive it and the second he moved he said that it needed a new gearbox for sure...unfortunately the local Mitsubishi dealer isn't aloud to touch ralliarts or evos so it had to go to Adelaide (4 hours away)...luckily i managed to convince Mitsubishi to truck it over there for me :)

Yeah the problem was that he was an exchange student and he was returning to China a couple days after i bought it. Looking back i guess it seemed a bit dodgy, but honestly i don't think he knew it was stuffed, he was showing off the gearbox to me and putting it in sports etc...if that was me and i knew it was buggered i wouldn't be mentioning the gearbox (not that i would sell it if i knew it had a major problem haha). It worked out ok though, i mean i got it for a REALLY good price with low ks and ended up with a brand new gearbox for nothing..cant really complain i guess ;)

What it was doing was not engaging the clutches properly on one side of the box. So 1, 3 and 5 gears would slip before going in. At first it was very subtle, it would rev a little before actually moving and 3rd and 5th didn't really do anything abnormal. But then it started to get worse and i would really have to rev it up to get it moving (at this point im thinking 'what the hell is everyone going on about the SST being great...its a POS' haha)and then i noticed when cruising at about 50/60 when it hadn't changed to 6th yet it would rev up and drop off...not enough to hear it, but i noticed the tacho would go up and down 200-400rpm but the actual speed wouldn't change (obviously it was slipping). It got to the point where one day i decided to zip across the round about before the person to my right went...i nearly caused an accident because it revved way up so i was just sitting there not moving, then they had started to go through the round about and the bastard thing made a horrible loud clunk and kicked in and i went flying across in front of them and nearly killed myself and them! It honestly was like have a stall converter or launch control but, not a manageable one that could be turned off haha. But its all fixed now! And i agree, the SST is an AMAZING gearbox. I was always a manual man (In the liberty i had the 6 speed manual almost the same as the STi 6 speed) before, but i am just as happy driving the SST as i am with a manual! Especially in sports mode:)

Haha yeah thats what i thought too. But apparently it wasnt wear and tear, it was something to do with the computer in the SST. Judging by the condition of it he looked after it really really well :)
