What To See / Do In Tassie
Mr H.......So Cool
Gday Eric,
From Hobart do the Huon loop, then to Sorell & Pt Arthur.
Back through Sorell via A3 to Swansea, then left on the B34 to Campbelltown.
Return to A3, left to Bicheno ( penguin parade @ night )
On to Freycinet, then to St Marys via Elephant Pass.
From St Marys via A4 to A3 to St Helens, then to Binalong Bay ( Bay of Fires ).
On to Launceston via Scottsdale ( A3 ).
If you still have time, you can go up A8 to George Town, then back via A7.
Or if your down there from the 27 Feb, you can try and keep up with me - I'll be on my bike !!

Hi Eric , We went to Tassie a few years back & I see you are going to Port Arthur in which I would of suggested as Port Arthur was the best Visit we had experienced ...Oh & we went on the Ghost tour at 11pm " It was scary BUT good Try to allow a full day at Port Arthur & take your time there is much to take in also try and do the " Island of the Dead " Tour , You get the ferry over with a guide it's very interesting if you like History & There is the Island Tour where they sent the young Boys ... We didn't make it to Cradle Mountain as bad weather stopped us so I can't comment on that ..... From Memory Lake Sinclair was nice when we went there was Snow on the Mountains we went in September ..... If you are in Hobart On a Saturday The Salamanca Markets are great .....
I Think it was Queens-Town we drove though & That is a place which looks like it dosen't belong on Earth .... Very Strange Town ..... But Interesting ..... Harvey was also Nice ..A little fishing Village ..... We Hired a camper Van & drove every day & seen maybe 80 % of tazzie in just over 2 weeks but it was too rushed so I would say one would need at least 4 weeks to see it all comfortably & Yes you are right Ron in wanting to keep going back as I would love to go back & see it all again ......
Hope This helps Eric & Enjoy Your Trip

Also went to Tassie a few years ago, some things I would recommend include the must visit to Port Arthur, also drive up the top of Mt Wellingtion (just on the edge of Hobart).
There is also an airwalk in the tree tops of the Huon Valley, known as the Tahune Airwalk (600 metres long) which is quite good. Also if you are into chocolate visit the Cadbury factory in Claremont in surburban Hobart. They have a store there and a bit of a display there but they don't do any tours anymore. You can get some cheap chocolate at the store though, especially when I was there when they were changing there packaging to cardboard boxes.
Just remeber a lot of the roads over there are windy in places so it does take a little longer to get between places, and some of the roads aren't the best.

Thanks for your Suggestions Andrew, we quite like the sound of the air walk in Huon Valley, also Mt Wellington might be a better option than Cradle Mountain, anyways we will see, Cabury Choc Factory oh yeah!! couldn't keep me away from that one. looks like we are getting a CJ as a Hire car, so not too worried bout windy roads !!
Cheers

Got Back From Tassie Last Night 6:30pm (21st Feb), Had a Great Time over There, looks like we gonna have to go back to finish off the things we didn't get around to doing.
We covered 1,345kms in our Rental (2010 Mazda 3 Sedan), People on here say Road noise is an issue with the CJ, in the Maz we gave up talking to each other as we would have to repeat everything as the road noise was so intrusive and loud.
The Maz
1st Stop Hobart: (2 Days) Spent the first Day just Walking/Wondering around the city and Docks Areas as our Hotel is in Battery Point, right where they hold the Salamanca Markets on Saturdays
Next Hobart Day We spent the whole day at Pt. Arthur, http://www.portarthur.org.au/ excellent Attraction and facilities (Your Entry Ticket is Valid for Two Consecutive Days which you could use to go in again for the Night Tours), lots of things to do in there, a Cruise was included in the Price.
Went on up to Swansea, (2 Days) Great place to Visit is Kate's Berry Farm, OMG lovely Jams you can sample and Choc Covered Berrys, Hudge Scones with Jam & Cream ( Spent $60 bucks just there ).
http://www.katesberryfarm.com/
Took in Lots of Tourist Sights, Wineglass Bay, Tesselated Pavements at EagleHawk Neck
and a few more Viewing Points along the way up to Bicheno then to St.Helens, but ran out of time to get to Bay of Fires.
Next was across to Campbell Town, even stopped and had a look at Lake Leake, just a big Resevoir Really
Stop 3: Launceston, (2 Days) Checked into the Charles Hotel,
(Beautiful Hotel) Went For a Walk into Launceston CBD, only a Few Blocks from where we were staying to check out the Shopping
Went see Cataract Gorge, was definatly worth the visit and a challenging Walking Trail included, LoL,
Then in the Afternoon took a Drive To Devonport, Had a look at the Spirit of Tasmania Terminal and a walk around Devonport CBD (Dead on Sundays, most shops closed)
Stop 4: (1 Day) Rosevears Retreat Tamar Valley,
View From Our Studio Apartment
but before checking in there went on up to Beaconsfield and Did the Mine Tour, once again a very Interesting and informative (Self Guided) Tour, went into Great Detail on the 2006 Mine Disaster
That's it Folks, have heaps more pics, iam sure you've seen enough!
hope i Didn't bore you,
Thanks must Go out To: WTR - Ron,
Dora_Anne - Doreen and
VRX_08 - Andrew,
your Suggestions were a great Guide
Cheers
