Fleet cars are just there for getting from A to B. Having less features probably makes them less of an insurance risk and cheaper to insure. Toyotas will generally provide better resale value as well, which is a point for consideration for fleet operators.
I'm wondering if the CVT automatic has anything to do with it as well. The conventional gearbox would be easier to maintain, considering how much those cars get thrashed.

The Commonwealth Bank has long been a Mitsubishi Fleet user.

My Brother-In-Law holds a Fairly High Position in the Commonwealth Bank ....
and for as long at it was available, he was always been given the Top Spec 380 with all the options etc fitted.

He has always Boasted & Struted himself around because he was on a Good Thing and enjoyed when the lease expired after 2yrs because he would have it Fully Serviced, Everything Checked & Replaced even if Slightly Worn or Presumed to Be ... New Tyres & Brakes fitted.

Then he would place an Offer-to-Buy from the Bank ... (at a greatly discounted price - because employees get-it cheaper) & Buy It for he wife (my Sister-In-Law)

I sound like I'm a Jealous Pr...k ..... Hey ..... Well "NO" .... Not At All.
But I cant stand to listen to people Boast & Chest-Up about what they get as part of their Salary Package over others.

Good Luck to them & Enjoy It .... but don't Ram-It down at the other Working Members of Society who don't have or never will have the opportunity to have a Salary Packaged Vehicle.
Not every Job in Society Warrant's or Justifies a Salaried Vehicle.

Where am I going with this:
Well I had Christmas Lunch at my Brother-In-Laws Place last week ..... and "Shock Horror" .... *eek**eek*

In it's Ever Increasing Endevour to Increase Profits, the Commonwealth Bank has decided that it's Not Enough to Keep Squeezing it's Investors & Customers (you) and that it's time to "Cut Cost's" & "Slash Spending" from Within (their own Staff) ....

"Result" = No More Top Spec Vehicles for their Executives.
From Nov 2011 all Executives will only receive "Base Model Lancer ES" (no options or extras) .... WTF .... *faint*
He Had a Brand Spanking New Lancer ES SportsBack parked in his driveway .....

My Brother-In-Law is Absolutely Guttered ....
Because the Lancer ES does Nothing for his "Executive Image" or his "Personal High-Flying-Profile"
Besides, his wife doesn't want it 2yrs time when it comes-up for replacement.
Oh Dear .... he will have to purchase her own from a Car Yard at Public Prices (such as we pay) ... *doh*

The Best Part of this Entire Gut-Wrenching Saga that my Brother-In-Law has to Endure is :-- *biggrin1*

I now Have & Drive a Better Lancer than Him even though it's only a 2009 Aspire ..... :D
And I sure Rubbed-It-In on X-Mass Day .... the word .... "Karma" .... is still "Ringing in his Head"

Oh & Off Course .... The Bank is still Buying Mitsubishi Vehicles for their Fleet ....

The Lancer Platinum Edition is available for $21,690 for the manual version and $24,190 for the automatic.[/quote:3dacd7bdc3] I mean like WTF!? Even a 2011 VRX doesnt have that. That simply is WRONG. Mitsu is screwing itself. Can you imagine the next Lancer release in late 2013, its ES model NOT having heated leather seats? It would be worthless... .

Let's not get too upset. My car is 3 years old, and the base CJ is 4 years old. Every manufacturer needs to shift product at the end of a product cycle. In 12 months or so, your new2012 lancer will look like the provious model, and will take a depreciation hit as a result. Adding the goodies keep the vehicles shifting through the dealerships. I can see every model having a platinum edition before the end of the year ( or the components like reverse sensors, leather, etc ) just become part of the spec for vr,vrx, ralliart etc.

Will be interesting to see what is next.....a new hybrid lancer a CeM? ( assuming mitsubishi wants to like their electric and motor vehicle divisions)

Sorry Sam but it does sound like you were a little jealous of your BIL. Not at all nice.

We lease our cars from hubbies work. We get a new car every 40,000km. We've had every Commodore since the VN, Fairmonts, Prados, old Magnas, Avalons, Territories, Craptivas and a heap of others. Our current car is a Ford G6E Turbo. We have had 24 new cars in 24 years pretty much. We are currently looking for something to replace the Ford with. I'm looking at the Audi A4 but it has to be big enough to fit rather big people in the back.

We pay through the nose for this privilege and some places it would be cheaper to have our own car loan but the car is part of his job. Executives and others are not just given cars. They do have to pay for them. And the higher up the chain you go the better the car. It's an incentive to go up.

And by the way your BIL would be GUTTED. Guttered would mean that he was stuck in a gutter. Gutted would mean that he has his guts ripped out.

Lots of companies do package a vehicle without the employee having to pay... Yes you pay FBT etc etc, so it costs money.

It comes across like you are boasting about getting a new car every 40,000kms... If you want to change your car that often you should be paying through the nose...

I salary package my vehicle, but that was my choice so my employer doesn't pay. I suspect a lot of execs do have their cars negotiated as part of their package though.

Doesn't the G6E have 19inch rims or at least 18inch???? I remember you saying that in your area you the roads are so rough low profile rims are a no no.

But meh this is a thread about a new lancer model I think not a thread about who has deeper pockets (btw mine are pretty deep ;))

That's OK Jacqueline .... But, I do Think you have completely Misinterpreted my point.

My Brother-In-Law has been ramming his "Salaried Company Car" Fortune down at me and my other Family Members for years.
It's been a point of Superiority of His over others which he Expresses often.
He's an Arrogant So'n'So ... (that's how he survives in his position - Back-Stab, Cut-Throat, Give-Up .... he says it all the time)
I keep Reminding him that "He' Must be a Consummate Professional" to have Survived for 27yrs so far.

My point was Merely a "Turn-In-Karma" .... "what Goes Around - Comes Around"

I Never Have & Never Will Begrudge Anyone who can Rise High Enough in Employment to Earn the Privilege of a Salaried Vehicle.

Only the "My Brother-In-Law Types" who Empower Themselves with Elitist Aspiration of Superiority over others.

Good Luck, Enjoyment & Prosperity to all the others.

One can "Only "Feel" Jealous" when No Other Situation or Alternative is Available.
Alternatively, One can "Only be "Accused" of Being Jealous" when the Ability & Willingness to Pursue Such Desire is Not Exercised.

Therefore: Me ... Well, My Ability to Pursue & Pay for whatever I Desire ... Rules Out Jealousy on both counts.

Regards: Sam.

Anyway to the new car. Looking at the features, they are quite impressive. Though surprised they would make a model with all those features at such a low price. You would think it would be priced equally to a more higher model and not the ES. It makes getting the ES pointless.

Makes me wish that I had that car instead of my current, so that I would only have to change very little of it to feel satisfied of my purchase.

Well to those who get it. What a deal. Hopefully any new car buyers would hold out for this model and not due to their budget shell out for an ES.

A car is a car mate. And we change that often to get the best resale for the employer in the end. Once they hit 40,000 it's time to move on. Sometimes that takes 2 years and others it takes less than 6 months. We have had to lease as part of hubbies job ever since he started his work 26 years ago. He spends a lot of time on the road so we use one we lease from them. Boasting....no. Stating the facts as they are....yes.

Yes that's right Chubb the roads on the coast are so rough low profile rims are a no no but we have actually moved to the Central West between Bathurst and Orange where the roads are a hell of a lot better.
