7,500 service?

Whats this for? I thought you only had a service every 15,000 is it for oils or something? Is it still $140? I've never had a car worth serving before so I'm a little confused

You have a complimentary service at 1500 then your next is supposed to be 15000. Havent heard of it being at 7500 (otherwise Im a little late at 13000 :P)

Yeh they tried to book me in for this. They say its recomended but you are only required to do 15000 intervals to keep warranty

its recomended that the oil is changed every 7500km and serviced with oil change every 15000km

Minimum servicing requirements for the Lancer is 1 year/15,000km. Severe conditions/heavy usage (towing etc.) is when you should change the oil at 7,500km/6 month mark. Also, for turbocharged cars (which yours is not), is worked much harder thus changing the oil is good practice to keep the car running optimally.

However, I assume you don't exactly do any towing/live in severe conditions (like the dusty red outback) and only drive daily as normal, so servicing it every year/15,000km will be fine :).

this has been bought up before, 15,000 intervals is fine, I believe some manufacturers are doing 20,000, Mercedes etc??? can anyone confirm that??

When I asked my dealer about this they talked me out of it. Said for normal driving i.e. not dusty roads or towing 1500 then 15,000 was fine.

Correct Glen. Some manufacturers run 20,000km+ service intervals. Others also have 'condition based servicing' (i.e. BMW) who may only change the oil every 25,000km. But for our Lancers, 15,000km is fine.

You may also want to do an intermediate oil change if you mainly do short drives where the engine isn't warm, as this is when most wear occurs. But certainly no need to pay someone else to do it, a bottle of oil and filter shouldn't cost more than $60.

Ok, sorry to bump this old thread up, and for the noob question, but how do I know how much oil my car engine needs, and what brand of oil filter is reasonable to use?

If its all in the manual, then, never mind, I'll look for the info when I pick up my car... In the meantime, I googled this but didn't get the info I needed. :p

about 4.3L (from memory) and that includes the oil that the oil filter takes up.
Filter. Well you can use Ryco replacement brand filters. However I've had the dealership hint that I should use their Mitsubishi ones in case of warranty issues. The price difference between original and Ryco is only a couple of dollars. So I'm not gonna quibble over a few dollars.
Realistically there are only handful of filter manufacturers in the world and they make OEM and after-market ones. They're pretty much all the same - but Mitsu dealership was being pedantic, well my one was.

They've been the same with parts for me. When I bought my replacement front bar, they'd only let me have ES parts, even took my VIN/Chassis number to confirm it was an ES. Kinda sucks, I thought it'd be a good excuse to get the new VRX/Ralliart bumper. The new VRX one looks awesome, especially with the alteration to the design in the fog lights and surrounding section. See this picture if you haven't seen the new VRX yet

Thanks Pete! Just what I needed to know. I think my dealership is going to be like that honestly, it'll be easier to do this now then argue over warranty issues down the road anyway.

I'm having the opposite problem with my 2012 Activ. The dealer says I have the VRX/Ralliart front and quoted me $500++ to have fog lamps added on. I know the ES set is only about $300+. I'll just have to wait for the new shaped fog light parts to turn up on eBay, there are lots of the "older" ES shape ones online already, because I'm not paying $500.
