I looked at Golfs and Megane's... the New Megane is an amazing car... but resale +cost of maintenance... owch

couldnt see myslef in a clio... id go a swift over a clio..

looked at Peugeot's... the 207cc was in the running but the mrs was indecisive, so i settled (and i say settled VERY loosely) on the Lancer... handling isnt as sharp at the SX4 (or any hatch back) i owned, but if it stuffs up i know i wont cost me the price of the car to fix.

(PS, im sure the lag + the sluggish handling will end in me taking someones rear bumper off one day (my own fault not the cars!))

keen for a track day in the new year to test its limits

the clio's are an amazing car to drive ! they go hard, just look like balls. :( are u just jealous he got a faster car than you? :P :P :P :P :P :P

i was looking at the megane rs250 when buying the evo but it was too similar to my MPS at the time. and it lacked a lot of creature comforts. i figured if i wanted to look at a boring interior all day it may as well have all wheel drive.

Nah not jealous that he's getting a faster car at all. In fact my other car is a Ford G6E turbo which can do 0-100 in just over 4 seconds :P

The Megane made his girlfriend car sick. They couldn't get that one no matter how much they liked it :)

He was looking at an MPS but decided against it. The SP25s were really expensive up there too. I've seen people getting them down closer to $31000 but they wanted $37000. Not right. His other option was an older EVO from the Toy Shop.

He doesn't like Peugeots. Granpa has one and it's not really wonderful. He's got the 307 in the turbo diesel touring model. It's the luxury model. It runs on the smell of an oily rag though.

That's another thing about the Clio. It's a 2 litre and it does 8.2L/10km. 11 in the city. Not very fuel efficient in my opinion.

His father rang him yesterday and is trying to talk him out of it. He's trying to get him to get something cheaper. For the $40,000 they're spending to get one car between them they could afford to get 2. It will be their only car. He's also concerned that his son is spending nearly as much on a car as what he did on his first house.

He's also concerned that this one will end up like her old one. Sideswiped by some jerk who didn't bother to stop and leave a note. She was just lucky that a copper saw it happen, followed him and got his details for her. The week before someone else hit her up the arse when she was parked out the front of their flat.

And unfortunately the boy has been spoilt in the cars he's been driving for the last few years. Working in a car wash where people let you drive their Audis, Mercs, BMWs, Lexus, Lotuses, Ferraris, Astons etc etc you actually do know what great cars handle like and you don't want to settle for less yourself.

It just really sucks that European cars don't come with anything standard. I asked if it had a reversing camera or sensors and he said no. Most of the cheaper Jap cars are coming with a lot of that stuff as standard now. He was looking at an Audi A1 and they were around $40,000 with a couple of bits and pieces in (like a CD player hehehe).

He's waiting to see what he has to pay back anyway. Unfortunately because he has no credit history (other than he's paid rent on time for 5 years and pays his bills) he can't get the low percentage deals the car manufacturers are offering at the moment. And I'm not going guarantor on a $40,000 car.

Woot woot he changed his mind. After much soul searching and thinking he decided against it. They probably wanted him to pay back too much money. He's a bit of a miser sometimes. Also he probably realised that they have to move soon and actually need some furniture.

Apparently his gf wants a used Mazda 2 now but I told them to go new on that one. 2008 models are selling for around $15000 and the new ones are $16490 drive away and they come with cruise control, more airbags and stability control and all the stuff that used to only be expensive options or not available at all back then. Now that's great resale. 4 years old and only $1500 less than the newie.

I saw a 2006 Clio that was selling for $8000. Bit of a loss there eh.

A friend bought a 2009 MPS for $32k. They depreciate very fast. Very fast, but torque steers like a bitch. Limited power in the first and second gear tough.

Mazda 2/fiesta/barina etc for the girl.
Lancer/focus/impreza etc for the guy.

Done :)

My friend's mum has a clio sport or something. Not as fast as what they wanted to get but still VERY fast, as they are so small and squat.
She drives like a teenager. :P

We lease the G6ET :) We own my Lancer and lease hubbies. We're going to change it soon. We're still up in the air about what we're getting. I'm pushing for an Audi A4 with the 3L TDI. It's pretty fast too and very nice. If we get an A4 we'll probably end up with a 2L or 2.7 though.

The Ford is fun. Hubby puts his foot down and you get thrown back in the seat and your face flattens out and you have to rearrange it again lol Love it. I'm not one for Fords usually but it's pretty good.

He's a pain. He doesn't just want to settle on something. He doesn't like my Lancer so much, the Focus was boring and the Subaru guy was an a*hole.

Oh and for the record.........I drive like a teenager too. Probably why I got the Lancer hehehehe

I would suggest the current Gen Polo GTi if you can put up with the wait!

Light, fast and good on fuel ( albeit premium only ).

They are so in demand you wont lose much money on it.
Love that car!

The wait is over a year for the Polo. He would have jumped at one if he could have had it.

Not out yet but would he/she consider the Skoda Fabia? Supposedly early 2012 release date with a lot of the goodies that the polo gti has for a good price. And has anyone mentioned the Volvo C30 yet?

I think Volvo's hold their own quite well. I could imagine that Skoda resales wouldnt be "fantastic", but surely it would be related to them being somewhat of an "unknown quantity" to the masses, not from a reputation of poor build quality like some french manufacturers

Hubby was talking about some Volvo for our next car. I wanted to know if the little hat and bad driving came with it :P

The problem with us is that he has to sometimes take a couple of burly people in the back (supposedly comfortably) so we have to watch what we lease for his work car. Could be fun going around to different dealers than I would for my own car. Whereas I look at near the bottom of the Jap ranges for my own car I can look a bit further up European ranges (and Ford and Holden) for his. Fun fun fun.

Don't think the boy has thought of Skoda. They are an unknown quality I suppose. He's probably driven a few at work but they're not something he ever raved about. I wouldn't have even thought Renault myself so there you go. Until Granpa brought the Peugeot home I wouldn't have thought any of us would have gone French in the first place. The Clio is made in Spain actually so there you go :)

Volvos are great cars and probably do have great resale but there is still that stigma attached to them.

We'll just have to see what he eventually gets. It's a pity that the Celica is getting a bit too run down. I just reckon it needs a decent service. Oh and all the stuff we paid quite a bit of money to be done actually done. When a friend looked at it recently none of the parts were even close to being new and they were still sort of stuffed. You pay someone good money to get your kids car fixed so it won't kill them and they basically tightened stuff and made it feel better and didn't actually replace the parts they reckoned they did and charged us for. They've since gone out of business. Bit of a bugger.

His current car is a just out of rego 1980 RA40 Celica by the way. She's a gorgeous car. White with celica in blue down the side. The boys love classic old cars. The 20 year old had a 1979 Series 1 RX7 as his first car at 17 :) He's got a VP Calais now.
