ofey wrote:@aspir3: Ive been told by my panel beater that when painting a bonnet, there is a necessity to paint the fender guards as well to allow the paint job to blend in as well. Is that true? OR is he just trying to rip me off?

Ofey I just spoke to my cousin and he said the guards will need to be painted too. They need to be lightly sanded and blended in at the top only and then clear coat the whole guard. Sorry!

My cousin was very concerned about the bonnets getting damaged during delivery. He said they need to be packed very well, upright and handled carefully. If they are damaged in any way then they are usually a throw away.

I will try to be at his workshop when the parts are delivered so I can inspect all the parts for damage.

Ofey my cousin suggested you inspect all parts once you have them and take pictures of them and give them to us so we can inspect for any damage during transport to us.

@RyanMK, my cousin is happy to store your bonnet until you return from Overseas.

@tnode, Trevor my cousin is happy to store your parts as well until you are happy for your car to be fixed. I explained you will be fitting your bumpers part of your accident claim. He said dont mention it to your insurance company as it is easier to just claim the repairs and then fix as you require. He said it is easier if you are claiming against the other drivers insurance but from memory you are claiming against your own.

Yes I too am very concerned about the packing.

Though the manufacturer has shipped all over the world and so far no complaints.

I did buy insurance as well. Whether or not I need to execute it I don't know.

Let's not jump the gun.

I am thinking it'd be best to send it to your cousin for SA's parts?

Yes send all SA's order to my cousin workshop.

If we take pictures and there is damage then we will at least know if it happened before or after Melbourne.

@Troy, that's great news. :) It's confirmed that I'll shipping my bonnet with the rest of the SA's shipment then. I will PM you the details of how long I'll be overseas.

As an update:

mainfreight wrote:Hi

The goods have docked but will not be available for delivery until around 3-4/12 (takes approx 5 day before LCL cargo will be available from the day the vessel arrive ( ship arrived 29/11 ).

Our cartage person will contact you once goods available.

Regards

So it would seems I won't get it till the following week.

For those in VIC please be available in that week as I would like to disseminate as many things as possible in the shortest time.

All good Irving. I felt it was their typo on the date. Atleast it's all in Australia now :) we have waited this long, I'm sure we can wait a little longer.

If people can't wait I'll gladly look after their parts on my car :-)

You guys won't like this.

But I guess in my defence I had to say we had duties to pay regardless since this was coming in by ship rather than air.

So here are the charges:
Duty = A$223
GST = A$705
AQIS Processing charge = A$14
Declaration Processing Charge = A$50
AQIS Container Charges = A$6

Total = A$998.00

I have paid out of my own pocket but have yet to work out how much each of you have to re-imburse me.

1. Do we divide it up equally between everyone taking part? Comes up to about A$40 per person.
or
2. Divide it by cost of part? Then obviously those who bought more end up paying more?
