dodge caliber

Postby hobba » Sat Sep 24, 2011 9:40 pm

So for the last few months i have been reading up on everything that looks interesting on this forum as I was intent on buying a lancer.
But just today i saw an add for the dodge caliber.$25,000 drive away.
This got me interested.
Has anyone driven one of these or know much about it?

I was originally planning on getting an sx, so 25,000 for this would be pushing the limit.
Worth the extra couple grand up on the sx?

So many questions. So cheers anyone for bothering.[/u]

"weird" wiring issues. Things failing for no reason and needing to be replaced. We had a factory cd player stop working when the customer replaced a taillight bulb. Seen a factory camera go faulty 3 days after delivery of car... Just various different things.

Interesting price for the Dodge, but technically it's in the same car segment as the Lancer. The Dodge is just more "beefed up" so it looks like a much larger car. You also get some more gadgets for what you pay for.
American cars are not known for their good quality and reliability though, and you'll probably take a knocking on resale.

What are your requirements though? The SX is about $23k driveaway anyway, so the extra $2k is not that much of a stretch IF you do really want the Dodge.

problem is this is a Lancer forum, we will diss the Dodge, if you jump on a Dodge Forum and as the same question but in reverse, they will say that the Lancers are cheap and crap, Dodges are built Tuff etc etc.

if your interested in the Dodge, jump on Dodge Forums, see what they say, if they have problems, they will say, even sign up and start asking questions but dont list the other cars your looking at. hopefully they will be honest to you.

and take one for a drive, drive the dodge first, then the Lancer hopefully straight after each other, then wait a week or two, then drive them both again, but drive the Lancer first. normally the first car you drive stays in your mind and you compare them, so swap it around.

If your worried about what the dealer will say about you testing them twice, first time take (im assuming your young) but take your dad, second time take your mum, or a GF, just take two different people and you want their opinion.

Correct me if I'm wrong .... I'm sure I read somewhere that the Calibre shares the same rolling platform as the Lancer.

Seems to be the case:

How it turns out is up to the individual manufacturer though.

My question is would you prefer a sedan/hatchback or a "SUV", it looks like a very different body.
Also if youre after a manual the dodge from 2011 only comes in cvt.
Some of the clear differences when comparing the stats of the two cars is that :
*The dodge is 4 star safety while the lancer is 5 star, so if safety is concern go with the lancer.
    *its slighty slower
    *its 15cm shorter actually
*uses up more fuel (not significantly)
*From what I can see it only has 3yr warranty while mitsubishi have 10 year (if bought new)
*the dodge seems to have some extras only seen when going up from the sx model lancer like climate air conditioning, fog lights, 18 inch wheels

It produces 285 hp (213 kW) at 6,400 rpm, and 265 lb·ft (359 N·m) of torque at 5,600 rpm using the Mitsubishi TD04HL4S-20 turbo. Edmunds tested one on a chassis dynamometer and obtained 281 hp (210 kW) and 261 lb·ft (354 N·m) of torque at the wheels........insert words about the suspension here.......and utilizes a front-wheel drive drivetrain.

Torque Steer much, plus thats a load of power for a simple Fwd system.

I presumed the answers I get would be biased but I was just interested.
ill deffinetly try and do the double test drive.
Although after doing a bit more research the dodge has a 4 speed cvt which is apparently a bit average.
I think I just want a big beasty looking car.
on most parts I think the lancer is better so ill probably still stick with that.
There's obviously nothing to amazing to be converted to it.

if you want a beasty looking car for a good price, you could get a mitsub 380, was my previous car, couldn't recommend more. Except uses a fair bit of fuel, although i do drive a lot, which was my motivation for buying lancer, uses 8.5ltr/100km instead of 11ltr/100km.
