Clay bar to get the big chunks of sharp small grit off before polishing, rather than polishing (scratching) the surface with the fine gritty bits which clay bar removes!
Yep! Clay bar is good with a bit of moisture on the body. stops it being so abrasive and you would want things to be completely clean before u polish
so after reading all this good priase about meguiars i went to the local auto shop and bought a small fortune worth of stuff (quite overpriced)....
Nxt Generation: Car Wash.... nice beefy 1.89L
Smooth Surface Quik Clay Kit (100g clay bar and 1 Quik Detailer 473ml)
Nxt Generation: Tech Wax 2.0
2x Microwipe Polishing Cloth
Nxt Generation: Speed Detailer 710ml
I forgot the polish arhh
Gonna have to wait till car wash day to see how shiny i can get it
I believe the meguiar's site/video claims that theirs is non abrasive

I agree with you all. Clay bars are great but please remember that they are an abrasive and you shouldn't use them more than once a quater.

The claybar may be non-abrasive but the dirt and toxins in the air that stick to your car aren't. The claybar works, but it is a very minor form of cutting/polishing paint. I was considering using one when I first found out about them, but a few car enthusiasts have told me its a twice a year job only!!! But HEY - everyone is gonna make their own decision on their own pride and joy!!!!
i just used the nxt gen car wash in combo with their wool mitt and i have to say it was pretty good. i was previously using a random big sponge/armour all? car wash from kmart.
the nxt gen removed stuff that the sponge/armour combo didn't remove and it smells tasty to boot!
gonna try out my clay/wax tomorrow
EDIT:
ended up claying it ... used 1/2 a bar and it still has some use left in it (driven about 4000kms n parked in garage). soooooooo smoooooothe
did 2 coats of wax on most areas... some bits only have a single coat... it got too dark to continue
took about 4 hours all up... can't really tell if its shinier as it was pretty overcast today.
btw are you suppose to wax windows/windshield? i have no idea so i left them.

Well I finally found the time to wash the car in 5 steps (took years)
1) Wash with Maguires gold wash
2) Dry with Chamois
3) Maguires quick detail / claybar then dry with microfiber cloth
4) Autoglym Super Resin Polish (put on a few panels then let dry and then buff off)
5) Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection (put on whole car and let dry for 60 mins then wipe off)
here are the results (pictures don't do it justice and it was getting dark so they didn't turn out as good as I would have liked.
