Installing boot lip chrome strip

Postby Gleno » Thu Sep 08, 2011 7:02 pm

Hey guys, the chrome strip for the boot lip arrived the other day, installed it using the 3m double sided tape, however the next day the strip started to come up on one of the ends so I subsequenty took it off tonight and it came off fairly easy. Obviously I want to put it back on again, I'm just wondering should I buy stronger double sided tape and re-apply, or should I use that sikaflex stuff??

The other consideration would be how did you surface prep the boot lid before sticking it on? If it was dirty or if it was coated in wax, it will always peel off.

Yes good point, maybe i didn't prep properly. I used maguires paint cleaner, supposed to get the old wax off?? Or is grease remover a better option?? Anyhow i taken the double sided tape off the chrome strip so just waiting on suggestions on whether to sikaflex it or re - apply double sided tape on the strip??

We put a couple of dabs of Sikaflex on Chris'...

Just bear in mind that you have bugger all chance of getting the sika off the paint once it dries...
