Capped price servicing

Postby peternguyen » Tue Sep 06, 2011 8:55 am

I just dropped off my 2009 ES for its 45,000km service, back at Ripponlea Mitsubishi where I bought the car from. Will be picking it up midday.

Now, I should have been more vigilant about this, but according to ofey's NA Lancer servicing thread, 15,000 to 60,000km services are capped at $195, but I'm being charged $225. The 60,000 and 75,000km service is $195 however, but then the 90,000km service is $225 again. I'm not sure why this is, but I did buy this car second hand after the 1st of Jan 2010, but obviously it was originally purchased by the previous owner prior to this date. I know it's only $30 but are these guys being dodgy or am I missing something?

I think you have to pay for consumables still. Ie its probably for oil etc.

The oil is supposed to be included in the $195 but there are probably some things that aren't like some sort of filters or something hence the $225. I still have 8 months or 9000 kms to my next service so I'll just have to see how much I'm charged for my 15000 service then eh :)

@Peter: You should always ask the service guy to tell you what consumables he will need for your service which is outside capped price.

the NA service guide I prepared and your service book will tell you what needs to be changed at that service. anything outside of that should be informed and you given a chance to provide it.

Yeah regardless of what the money was for, when I get my services they give me a breakdown of everything they did and what I'm paying for.
If they rip you off its cos you let them. Just ask what you're paying for.

I asked the service advisor and he said that this is the pricing for when you buy a used car or something like that.

Seeing how it's before that 2010 date, I would've thought the servicing costs would be much higher.

http://www.mitsubishi-motors.com.au/own ... -servicing

Capped price servicing applies to cars purchased after 1 January 2010. If you bought a 2009-build car that was PURCHASED after that date then it would apply. IF you have the original service book it will have the purchase date, simple to check with Mitsubishi using the VIN as well.

When you say purchased, do you mean originally purchased by the first owner? The first owner would have purchased it before 2010.

@Peter:

I've re-read the post you made.

The car was purchased a MY09. Regardless of you purchasing it after Jan 2010 as 2nd hand. You do not qualify for capped price servicing.

So really this is much ado about nothing.

Hmm. Fair enough. I suppose then I should be grateful that for some reason this dealership is still offering me capped prices to some level.
