3D Eyelids

Postby lena91 » Tue Aug 23, 2011 10:33 pm

Ok, Im not asking for me, I dont have them on my car, but a mate of mine got a warning from the local police about having them on his car.

1) Are they actually illegal
&
2) If they're not, how can they warn/then possibly defect the car.

The cop that pulled him over is one of the locals that know him and his car. Never had an issue before now, but the tinting and the eyelids got picked up, but because of who the cop is in town he only gave a warning instead of a defect notice.

Thanks for any help

They actually looked good on the car Tate, the red and black went rather well.

I believe technically they are illegal due to covering up part of the headlamp regardless of whether it blocks the beam.

It can also make it harder to see the indicator.

Ok. I hav them on my car. One day coming home from a cruise I got pulled over for a RBT and the copper wen. All over my car, he saw the eyelids and asked me to put the lights on and then he walked away and looked at the car. Then came back and told me to put my hazard lights so ( so he could see both indicators), walked away again and looked at the car from different angles. Came back. We had a quick chat about the eyelids and he said all is good can see the indicators clearly

I have the 3D eyelids on mine as well.

Same thing happened to me as Ben.
Had a cop look over my whole car. After being pulled over for "speeding". No fine was issued after I asked him how fast I was doing.

He paid special attention to the indicators since the 3D eyelids cover them.
Asked me how they were attached, I said double sided tape and sikaflex (no sikaflex though). He stood at several angles to the front and asked me to leave the hazard lights on.

He then told me my car looked hoon-like from the outside and asked me how much power it made at the wheels. Told him that it was no more than 100kW. Probably more 90kW.

All this happened with me sitting in the car.

Then told me to drive safe and not race.

Yeah I'm not a fan of the eye lids, not sure what purpose they serve, cosmetics I'm presuming.

Glen - all mods serve a purpose of some sort. 99% what we do is to make our cars different from the rest. Dome go for looks, others performance and some handling.

If you like the look, good, do it. If not, then dont. I like on mine. Some cars I don't like em

Thats a fair comment :) are these eyelids specifically for the lancer or can you get them for other makes and models?

I have only seen this style on the lancer myself Glen, the most common type of eyelid on cars is a simple strip across the headlight (that is what I have).
