LED or CCFL Angel Eyes?

Postby BrownSound » Wed Aug 03, 2011 6:22 pm

So I've been wanting angel eyes for quite a while now, never really taking the plunge and being distracted by other mods. Finally the time has come for me to actually go ahead and do it. The plan is to have it done by Concord Customs as I've decided I am not confident enough and do not really have the patience and finesse needed for the job.

The question is whether I should go for LED or CCFL?

The two main factors that worry me are brightness and longevity. I want the AEs to be visible during the day and it would be nice if they last since I don't really want to have to fork out more money to have new ones put in.

So, opinions anyone?

been reasonably happy with the ones automoglow supplied although one has broken after about 6 months.
i also suuspect longevity has to do with ride comfort ie. stiff bouncy car like mine may knock em around a bit

Heh, I am planning on making my car more stiff with sway bars, although the pro kit springs offer quite a comfortable ride.

6 months? I guess for $80 AMG ones that is acceptable, I was thinking these would last closer to the 2 year mark, especially considering the cost including install is $450. I should probably discuss with the guys at Concord Customs if they have a "warranty" or anything.

My Automoglow ones have lasted since May 2009 till now? So definitely more than 6 months for mine :D! They have the neon look which I like more than the LED ones but its ur own choice

450$ sounds a bit steep. I've also got the automoglow ones and ya couldn't be happier. I like the continuous ring of light and they're bright enough to see during the day.
Install is a bit of an ordeal but if your up for the challenge you could save a fair bit by the sounds of it.

yup they fit on regular lancer headlights. I installed my set, takes maybe a few hours. There should be a how to on here but basics are take out headlights (need to take of front bumper) stick lights in oven to soften glue, open lights, glue in the ccfl tubes, seal it all back up and splice a few wires and your g2g

depends how you wire it up. I've got mine wired up so they dim on and off when i unlock/open doors for a nice effect but then when driving they're off unless switched on. Didnt want to have too many lights/ricey look all the time so ya you can wire it up to suit.

Yep, that is their standard price for installing AEs. I thought it was a bit much as well, but no-one else does it for any less and CC have done a lot of them (Hoges and Big_Lucas included).

That's the question for me really, I don't thing I am up for the whole fiddly bit of gluing them in place right. But it really is a big difference in price.

I talked to CC a little while back about doing them for me. For an extra $100 I was going to get them to wire the AE to the parkers and the low beams - the AE turn on when parkers are on but off when the low beams are on (I was going to do this to extent their life as I do alot of long distance driving.

Wow... I just got off the phone with CC and in the last month they have changed their prices because they have gone with a new supplier. Supposedly due to the drama they were having with the old LEDs.

They now change $600 fitted!!
