Difference between branded and generic bulbs

Postby noo$h » Mon Aug 01, 2011 12:57 pm

hey guys, its come the time for me to replace my low beam HB4 bulbs (and possibly high beams and was wondering what are the differences between say the phillips range and random ebay ones.

ive found phillips diamond visions going for under $40 http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2X-PHILIPS-D ... 365wt_1172

and there are random generic ones for under $15

so are the phillips ones actually brighter? or just last longer. i was using a random set for about a month untill one of the bulbs went out last night.

I wonder if those are genuine or not...

You get what you pay for really, branded are better quality, longer lasting globes compared to a cheap generic set id say.

mm yeah i was surprised to see them for 40 too. id probably go for them if they were legit and lasted longer. i was hoping they might be brighter too but i guess that depends on the wattage not the bulb?

no the wattage stays the same i believe.. (otherwise you'd be blowing lights?) its the colour that changes.. 5000k would be brighter yes.

this one is $40 from an aus seller and in the actual box set so more likely to be legit. plus itl be a shorter delivery time - http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... 585wt_1141

The higher the wattage, the brighter the bulb. The higher the temp (ie 5000k), the whiter the colour, and the whiter u go the higher the wattage needs to b to get the same distance light beam

Hope that helps

Diamond visions don't last long, most people only get one year max. I myself use blue Visions - slightly whiter but they last longer and have better light output (due to less blue tinting). I've had them more >1 year and I drive majority night driving (probaly 30,000km since I got them with 80% night)
