Brand new v.s "old"

Postby n_aghdassi » Sat Jul 09, 2011 9:33 pm

hey guys thought i might give you guys a comparison on how your lancer will feel like when they hit 250 000kms compared to a new lancer with 300km on the clock.

i am currently driving a 2008 lancer es with 250 000 kms but had a chance to drive my dads new es lancer 2011 with 300kms on it.

there were a few minor differences to be honest.
-the speedo has been changed around to the opposite side from the 2008s to the 2011's
- the 2011 has an arm rest!!!!!!
- the engine has a rather tin sound to it and sounds VERY cheap imo on the 2011.
- the clutch is owwww so soft and feels like heaven compared to the 2008's clutch
- the 2011 has fancier black tail lights which i prefer

other then that they really do seem exactly the same considering how many kms the 2008 has done compared to the 2011.

any questions?

I noticed the clutch thing aswell when I was driving a MY11 when my car was being serviced. Felt smoother event though it was a bit heavier. and a 2008 with 250,000kms? Jesus christ how much driving can you do in 3 years! Im only up to 65 and ive had mine since 2008

the clutch is unbelievably different in the MY11 compared to the MY08
i have to fight the clutch in the MY08 and my leg gets sore in traffic where as the MY11 it goes in without any resistance, it feels like heaven

yeah my dad is a driving instructor and gave me the car for free.... that should explain the kms

I never had any issues with my clutch. Mine had 150,000kms on it. If I still had it, it would have about 180,000kms now.

Has the clutch been replaced in that 250,000 kms? Being a learner car of all things, I reckon that clutch has had it!!

lena91- i did, and they don't. got pulled over for rbt the other day and they had a look at the car and nothing :)

LZY_EYE - probably, it would not surprise me. she still runs tho. and i took it in for a service and they saw no problem with it so hopefully i can get more kms out of her

Service department won't pick it up most likely....

Where is the friction point? If it is right up the top of the pedal it is probably time to replace it...

A worn clutch wouldn't feel heavy would it?

Mine is pretty low, I don't have to move my foot much to crawl in traffic so its quite manageable.

It doesn't sound 'ruined' but it might be worth asking them to check it out next time. The issue is whether its because its worn or just different to the newer cars.

I think MY2010s and 11s must have the same clutch because I would not describe mine as heavy in the slightest.

If you're having trouble with it, its not very fair to make people learn to drive in it. Although depending how you look at it its probably better than it being a breeze :P
