Something strange happened tonight...
I got home and when I turned off the engine and opened the door, the lights turned off as normal. But then a couple hours later, I went to get something out of my boot and as I pressed the boot release button on the key fob, not only did the boot open but my headlights also turned on!
I then spent the next 5 mins trying to get it to do it again but I couldn't. Was this just a once off anomaly or is there some hidden button sequence that can cause it to happen?
I have a MY10 Activ btw.

The smart key fob has, lock doors, unlock doors and boot release. I have a MY10 VRX.
Looks like part of the MY11 re-fresh there is a welcome light feature

* Welcome Light feature (i.e. they will hard wire your parker lights/DRLs to your Dome light circuit so they light up when you unlock your car)

I don't see the point of parkers coming on as per the "MY11 Lancers - The Early Scoop and inside thread" - I'd suspect the thread meant headlamps.Dire wrote:Edit: And he said his headlights came on not his parkers.

Re-try this again in the dark after 30 mins. Re-try again after 30 mins but open the doors only and see if the headlamps come on. Report back to us, we'd be most interested......

Well both my headlights and parkers came on. I know the MY11 has that feature, but mine's a MY10.
Anyways just thought that it was strange that I've had the car for over a year and it's never done that before tonight, and only did it once as well. Must've been a glitch or something.
I remember reading about someone else on the forum who had this happen to him as well, but he also couldn't reproduce it. Can't find the thread though.

What key do you have? Smart key or just a key + buttons?
I was told my car was a MY09 but I learned it was a MY10 AFTER I bought it. But; I doubt it could be a similar case with you as I don't think theres any MY11 activs. They replaced them with the SX.
I would agree its a glitch, though the only boot button I have is on my hatch.
Anyway no combination of headlights setting and key/MY should lead to headlights coming on without a) turning them on with the spindle or b) turning the key when they're set to 'On' or 'Auto'.
Unless I'm missing something.
Nothing to worry about unless it happens often anyway. Happening often would mean something, possibly the computer is faulty, and you wouldn't want that.

I have just a regular key, like this one:
The boot release is the circle button.
Bummer, I thought maybe I had stumbled across a way of turning on the lights from the outside lol, oh well.
This also happened to my MY10 VRX yesterday, came back to the car pressed the button on the boot (not on the key) and my headlights came on. However when I tried it again nothing happened.
Really strange that this is to happen to two cars on the same day, I was thinking about making a post about and saw this .......... cue x-files music .

Did you turn your headlights off when you parked the car? or did you let them auto switch off once you got out.
This is all speculation btw.
SO when you can back to open the boot the cars electrical system fired up to release your boot and the head lights then turned on... Without the ignition going into ACC or the engine turning on the HLs have a short delay before switching back off.
The electrical systems in the car stays active for a short time after the last input it recieved and this is probably why you couldnt recreate it?
I have had the lights turn on when I forgot to turn it off and I used the keyless entry to get back in the car later...

i have had this happen to me a few times, but when i have opened a door not the boot. i have a my08 es. i pretty much always leave my lights on. there have been a few times where i have parked, left my lights on (gota luv how they turn off when the door opens), walked away from my car, and then come back later on in the day and unlocked it, opened the front passengers side door and my lights have come on. doesnt do it all the time though. weird!
