Perth to Melbourne

Hi all,

I'm moving from perth to melbourne before the end of the year, and thought it would be fun to drive my lancer across.

Does anyone have any tips on essential equipment that I should take, apart from a jerry can of fuel and a butt load of water?

Make sure you've got a full size spare instead of a spacesaver.

I'd say you should carry a spare wheel, probably also a spare battery and Flare? Torch light?

Also arrange to meet the SA people en route here.

If you're going on your own just sleep in the car...
There was a thread like this not long ago, only they were driving the other way.

You will need a sleep unless you have 2 very determined drivers. And if you're a sight-seer, make sure to account for that.

Also, don't let your fuel drop too low as theres some large gaps in stations on the nullabor.
And other members say fuel is very expensive on the way so maybe invest in the biggest jerry you can fit. It will be cheaper to buy it and use it only on that one trip than it would be not to.

I dont have too much boot space on account of my sub. And I am hoping to take most of my stuff their with me. But then I guess there is the back seat.

I was hoping to get a co driver, and just do it none stop.

I wish I knew, I'd like to do the trip myself. I'd expect north of $1.50 though... Remember its a lot of tanks to get across.

I just read a trip story... It says the furthest gap between stations is 190something km, and theres a few gaps about that long. Nothing crazy but keep it in mind. :)

I think its going to be between 5 and 6 tanks.

at lets say $85 each, thats between $410 and $500, on fuel. But as my employer wouldnt have to pay for an airfare, I think I could negotiate some sort of contribution.

But if it comes to it can anyone reconmend a good company for shipping the car across?

Trucking it across would probably be the way to go...
It would probably be cheaper to drive it though. I'm not sure...

Well they wouldn't be, it'd be on the back of a truck... Which is how it would have gotten to the dealership before you bought it...

Hi,

I had a friend who used the train to cart him and his car from Perth to Adelaide and then they drove it from there to Melbourne.

He said the trip would be fantastic in a car, but only if your goal was to take it easy as a sight-seeing trip otherwise he didn't feel it was worth the effort doing the sprint across the Nullabor.
