Sun Visor Mods

Postby Pascher » Sun May 01, 2011 11:51 pm

Hey Guys,

Just looking at getting some of your thoughts. In the Lancer SX the sun visor feels very cheap as it is probably made of some plastic piece with foam around it. You sometimes find this in other cars, but also find the hard solid type sun visors.

I was wondering whether the higher Lancer models such as the VRX, Aspire, Ralliart etc. have a more solid sun visor, or is it the same?

What I am looking to do is to try and find a form and fit replacement (maybe even from the Mitsubishi 380, ASX, Outlander etc.....if they fit). This is with the view to possibly have the passenger side with a mirror and light that switch on when you open the cover (for my girlfriend of course) and on the drivers side install an lcd that can hook up to a reverse camera. These are both small future mod ideas, but generally I just want to have a sun visor that doesn't feel like I will break it.

What are your thoughts?

Cheers

I'm not sure what you're talking about, it doesn't feel that bad.

But all CJ's have the same visor... And going by google images, so do outlanders.

You could probably make your own if you're keen, otherwise all you can do is look for others that fit...

It feels pretty solid to me. I'm happy with it. :)

I agree, it isn't that bad, but what I mean is that the Lancer one is a foam construction, whereas I noticed in a Mazda is made of a hard plastic and a Mercedes I was in was also a hard plastic. Just felt 'more' solid.

I'm being a tad fussy, but it was just some thoughts I had for improvement :)

Doesn't it make more sense to have a soft item in front of you that you could possible hit in a car accident?

These things are designed to break in an accident and be soft in an impact.

hey i know how u feel. i hate my sun visor! they do feel 'cheap'. does urs sit all the way down? i drive with mine down most of the time, and i notice it doesnt sit as far down as the passenger side. duno if that makes any sense, but when its down u can push it further towards the windscreen but it just pops back.

Yes agreed, soft is better for impact, however your head shouldn't smash the sun visor unless you have your seat very close to the steering wheel and the visor pointing towards your head (as opposed to away). When I use the visor I have it pointed away so it is parallel to the windscreen and my head is quite far from it.

From an Australian Standards point of view, if hard visors were illegal/not to standard, then I believe they wouldn't exist in other vehicles. Considering they are in other vehicles then I presume they safe.

Valid thought tho!

Yeah, my passenger side won't stay in position if i push it as close to the windscreen as possible....it sort of falls back to a lower position. The drivers side, I can push it right up close to the windscreen, but after a few road bumps it falls back down to a lower position. A tad annoying sometimes.
