Protect your bumper/front lip

Postby PYLee » Thu Apr 28, 2011 10:56 am

Hi guys,

i've been considering about getting a front lip and thought of the heartaches that i'll get if i scrape so i decided to look around for a solution that would reduce the damage when scrape.

Here is what i found

Alright so since I was given good information, I will give back to the community. For those riding low and usually scrapes like me, using body molding is an INGENIOUS idea. The install was actually very easy and I think anyone can do it.

Provided below are pictures of the finished product. There are gaps between the molding because those gaps have screws. I decided to no cover up those screws because first the molding won't stick very well to the bumper and second if I ever need to access those screws, I wouldn't want to rip my whole molding apart.

You can actually curve the body molding around the corners to avoid cutting up different pieces of body molding. I learned that after the fact so you will see one that is separated.

Installing this body molding makes me very happy because I cringe every time I hear a scrape. Hope it helps you guys out too. Oh and in the last pic, my daughter helped me wrapped up the body molding. There is enough left for another front bumper.

Happy low riding.

I think its a great idea to prevent minor scrapes , of course if you hit your bumper/lip hard enough , it'll still crack. What do you think ?

How about the clear 3M protection?

It might be a little hard to get round corners, but is another option.

Clear 3M protection is more protection towards rock chips and minor damages, it would probably rip apart after scraping once. Curves will be tricky to apply, cutting them to several pieces should do the trick.

lol that's his daughter

I dont think there is any thing strong enough out there to protect your car against scrappage.

Heh my car isn't lowered and I have still managed to scrape it! I might actually do this... it will help a little at least.

Maybe it's the Mystic Blues.

I've scraped the bottom of the bumper twice and those black guard things multiple times.
The front of the Lancer seems to have less clearance than my dad's Camry.

It is not the clearance that is the issue. It is the low angle from the bottom of the front tyre to the bottom of the bumper which is the problem.

Probably is that then. If I'm struggling now, I wonder how the guys with front airdams get past steep angles.

Next car is going to be an SUV!

Guys,
I have a limited supply of clear bodyguard vinyl in 2.5mtr x 15cm pieces for $27.50 each if anyone is interested.
This size is plenty for the front bumper bar.
