Price For a Replacement Key
Hey guys
Recently I lost one of my car keys.
Today I've been told it would be $349 for a new one, including some crap about needing to change the car's recognition so the key I lost no longer works (I don't even know if that is the price for one key or 2, as by their explanation I'd need 2 new keys as the one I still have would stop working).
This sounds ridiculous to me, especially considering my nanna's BMW cost $86 for a new key.
Also, I don't know exactly where I lost my key but I know it was not in the presence of my car or anybody that knows my car (my car was at home, I was not), and therefore theres essentially zero chance of someone using the lost key on my car.
Comments? Are they trying to scam me? Or if this is genuine, do I have to do it or can I just get another key?

Jake When I brought my car it only came with one key " My car was 2nd Hand " , So I went to Mitsubishi to get another key and they just programed a key for me ...It was around $ 230 - $ 250 from memory ?
That doesn't sound right what they are telling you ? Was that at a Mitsubishi Dealer ? ..I would shop around at different dealers as when I was looking at getting my Spare key The cost varied from one dealer to another ....Can't understand why as one would think it should be the same cost ...

Sorry Doreen, I haven't gotten around to it yet. I also didn't see ofey's post...
I just have the key with lock/unlock buttons...
So I would be after the key door lock transmitter? And the 'Key Blank Secondary'?
So $163.10+ combined, $140 CCJ price?
So I could buy them, then take them to a dealership, and probably pay a bit more for the programming?
Sounds like thats the way to go...

Re-Read OFEY's posts .... he explains himself quite well.
The dealer will probably charge you to re-program the key or you could just say (my key just stopped working and try and claim the warranty)
My experience with keys and cars.
I have had a couple of commodores, 1995, 1998, 2002 and 2004 .... the Key's were exactly the same looking, but the reprogramming was more expensive on the 2004 because the program they use had changed with the newer models and it was $175 from Mr-Mint or ........ $275 from holden (for 1 key).
