I think some of the confusion may lie with the word "Biased".

For me the best to describe the differences I see with ASC OFF is

- TARMAC in the dry NEUTRAL Balance, point, WOT and steer
- GRAVEL in the dry point , WOT go sideways and steer (OVERSTEER) :D

Many points being made. Skid pan is not definitive, but it is a slippery surface which allows you to pitch the car around and push over and understeer. I am not saying it is ASC/diff modes are crap, just saying I can't really pick a difference with ASC off.

My beleif is that with ASC off, the 3 modes are also disabled...just constant AWD like a non STI WRX, unless you use handbrake which disengages the drive to the rear.

Does the RA have AYC???

I think Nuliaj summed it up the best. ACD is either free or closed with the modes determining how long it takes to change.hence why everyone gets slide in snow and dirt modes as they have the longest time between slip and engagement; also that there is no bias between front and rear (fixed 50:50 ratio)

The article was posted earlier what part were you looking at? It says a few things like discussing benefits of different torque splits but they ended up deciding on a 50:50 split as it produced favorable results on all road surfaces..

RA doesnt have AYC like the X - anything with the S-AWC does. I think there is an Outlander that has it? not sure though. AYC/S-AWC would be awesome to have though - all the test clips on youtube make it look awesome!

I unintentionally got my RA sideways in the wet one day turning left so I tried it going right the next day and it did it again. Both Times the setting was Tarmac - went home and read the manual and it advises that in the wet you should use Gravel Mode & It seems to work. So in the wet I use Gravel.
