For the benefit of other ClubCJ members and anyone who happens to find this thread through Google, I'd like to highlight some of the issues which arose today when installing the AEM Digital Boost Gauge (30-4406) into the Rexspeed Steering Wheel Carbon Pod (gauge pod) on my 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X MR. Pictures/links below FYI.

Basically the issue is that the gauge pod from Rexspeed is moulded to fit directly on top of the steering wheel column. Looks fantastic, well packaged, high quality, etc... but what isn't obvious from the website is that you need to use a FLUSH MOUNT GAUGE. I personally wanted the AEM boost gauge from below and checked it was 52mm which fits with the Rexspeed specs per the website, but when we went to install it today an interesting issue arose- the bezel stick outs so much that it actually blocks the steering wheel from turning.

Attempting to turn the wheel forcefully simply leads to the gauge pod/plastics popping off.

As a result, we spent considerable time experimenting with other options and eventually had to go to the local Harvey Norman and buy a 58mm lens cover thing for a digital SLR camera. This was to substitute the bezel which on the AEM gauge holds the lens in place as well as looking fashionable.

This is a very messy exercise requiring experimenting with glue and cutting/etc but eventually the final result is this:

Other things we tried include cutting/sawing the bezel to make it fit flush but it's too thick still (as the tread stops).

We hope that this thread will hopefully come up in search engines when people google "Evo X AEM boost gauge install" and "Rexspeed CF gauge pod" as a bit of a review of the importance of considering the flushness of the gauge when using this pod.

Thanks to Sean (spareparts) and Shane (LZY_EYE) for doing all the actual work and the thinking :)

As another tip, don't seal the CF gauge pod onto the steering wheel column using the tape UNTIL you're 100% happy with the gauge because once it's in and sealed, it's damn difficult to get it out again and to plug wires in/etc.

Forgot to mention even with the new camera lens cover, it still rubs the steering wheel bottom edge slightly but hopefully we can fix this next weekend.

is it just me or does the gauge sit further down rather than in the middle ?

It's definitely off-centre. I might look to get an exchange/refund since the gauge pod might even be a manufacturing defect compared to the official Rexspeed photo of the mould which shows the gauge being centre mounted (i.e. spot on in the middle).

yea , try to get a refund instead , or use your credit towards other parts. Rexpeed's fitment aren't the best and their carbon weave are already fading on my car :(

I was thinking of getting one of their lips since they're reasonably priced circa $400 but decided to pass.

On another note, I ended up using a cheap $30 gauge mount from Autobarn and it looks fantastic.
