AND to gather dust, and block the airbag like the Haigh ones do.

The airbag is released from the top of the dash, and the windscreen partially reflects the bag towards the driver

the front passenger air bags comes out by birsting the panel above the glove box doesnt it (there isnt any where for it come out of ontop of the dash)?? in which case the dash mat will be fine...

I will double check in my workshop manual, but I'm pretty sure it bursts the panel on top of the dashboard.

Ok, here is a picture out of the workshop manual. Now to my eyes, it shows the airbag module just below the top of the dash, and it highlights the airbag itself, at the top most of the module. So I would say that it deploys from the top panel. It definately does not look anywhere near the frontal panel to me.

Only way to confirm is to see a smashed Lancer, but we don't want to see one of those, as it would be quite upsetting for a lot of people.

i can see where your coming from sir vrx, but i rekon thats kinda stupid if it came out from the top of the dash, what if your airbags went off and you didnt get written off? your whole dash would have to be replaced. But if it comes out from the top, thats mitsubishi's perocadive

Yes I did think about the whole dash getting replaced, but for an airbag to go off it requires a fair impact, and the damage from the impact combined with the damaged dash from the airbags (3 in a frontal collision) the car would be a write off anyway.

I'm sure anybody would rather replace a dash panel than a life

was the interior protection on the dash and pannels? coz my mum got interior protection and it was only for seats and carpets

This is old i know but the interior protection or "X pack" is what I got is covered under a lifetime warranty for all material and plastics inside the car :)

The bag is beloyed under the bit of plastic that looks like a cover... it flicks up and the bag deploys instantly where the panel used to be.

yeah it seems to be labelling the front panel as the front air bag module so it'd pop that part up (would be held on by pissy connectors), there's no way they'd try break through the top of the dash surely, its too tough and no visible "weakened" points in it (look closely on the airbag cover for the driver and u can see weakened points in it) and it would slow down the deploy time...

dunno whats happend to my mums fiesta but since shes bought it the weakening tear lines where the airbag pops out, have become more and more visible. anything we should worry about since we are on the subject of airbags

Looks cool Tadz, it really looks good..
shame about how it blokes the airbag.

i would just cut some perferations under the mat to help out the air bag....that should be all it needs tadz....but of course i would have to see it close up to make sure....but thats what i would try and do.
then that way it won't wreck the mat, and the airbag will deploy safely.

Yeah I can see the weakened points in the steering wheel, and the small panel above the glovebox does not come out easily I have previously discovered

The dash mat I have has a cut out area on top of the dash, which matches the workshop manual air bag location - it's almost like the dash mat is in two separate pieces.
