Gear knob surround

Postby brodon » Wed Jan 26, 2011 10:14 pm

Hey all,

So i have a dumb question but thought id ask the experts. I own a vrx manual and i have the normal silver carbon looking surrounds. Im curious if you can put the silver sst syrrounds in like the Evo 10's have despite the fact the sst switch wont work. Basically want to know if i can swap them over. Dumb i know.

Now looking at it... if you could pop out the middle where the drive letters... i get what your saying about the SST button now. You could make that switch do something els would be pretty cool. i will run down to the car and see how that piece in the middle could be poped out.

Oh, a manual, oops.
I'd say it'd probably fit but might be in the way. Do some measurements of the distance of your stick from the right edge in 5th and bottom edge in reverse, and ask an evo/RA owner to measure the width of the guide around their surrounds :)

I Would think is would be a pretty easy swap.

That's mine the outside line looks like the part is all together.
the inside like, that sliver lower part i can push down on looks like it would pop out with force. then you would slip the outside housing over your manual shifter. the sst button would not even be there, Ofey might be able to help you with a part number for that outside surround.

Hope that helps out mate.

I've seen some various CF stick on bits (e.g. rexspeed) which do similar job but none look as 'bright' as the OEM one.

I am indeed helping Brodon find the easiest (read as cheapest) way to achieve this.

I suspect Chris851 is right in saying:

Just change the surround.

They will interchange perfectly I suspect since it takes up the same space. However, The part where the leather boot is, that central square opening will have to machined open as a manual gear box has 6 degrees of movement while the SST/CVT only goes up and down.

So Brodon would have to cut the central square open which won't be too hard and the leather boot will keep it covered up so no one can really see if he messes up below. Although on the top, I'm wondering the degrees of freedom in the Up-down-left-right will be sufficient for him to shift. It looks much less than necessary. May end up not being able to engage 4th 5th and Reverse.

Those are my worries really.

for the part:

8015A045HA - Panel A/T Shift Ind Silver
RRP = A$358+
CCJ= A$315

Whether or not it'll allow you to move your gearshift, I won't know.

Now it'd be interesting if someone with a CVT would try?

Cosworth Panel Filter w/ RA Intake | SuperCircuit 4-2-1 Headers | Creat’d Ti-tipped SS exhaust
