dont worry Darren, u wont go to jail.

the demerit points u would loose would b 3 and $211

http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/rulesregulati ... eding.html

if they didnt give u a fine on the spot then u will b safe, if u do get a summons then it just means the cops want to waste ur time by dragging u to court. Just tell the judge u were doing the marked speed limit and as Tim said the case will b thrown out due to lack of evidence

Darren I am the same as you by the sounds of it.

I have never been in any trouble with the law, apart from a small speeding fines in 25 years.

The law is not about to lock you are for a minor offence.

As you said just wait to see what comes in the mail. If you receive a fine just pay it.

Sound advice Troy. I would have paid it anyway but it was just one of those stragest experiences. The detective almost seemed inconvenienced by pulling me over.

Detectives, generally do not have infringement pads (detectives are generally specialised in their area of chosen expertise of crime, homicide, fraud, drugs, gangs).
You'll probably get something in the mail, when(if) he does the paper work. The marked car most likely could not issue the fine, as he was not the informing officer, the detective was. The detective could not "borrow" the uniformed offier's book. All infringement pad pagesare uniquely serialised and assigned against an officer (so if the pads go "missing" the accountabiltiy lies with the officer that has custody of the range of serial numbers on the pad).

20 over? $361 and 3 or 4 points (I copped on eonly a few months ago). LOL.

You're right there Pete. He even said to me "I'm a detective looking after serious crime, I don't do highway patrol and waste my time with this stuff...I don't have time for this"

Makes me think that maybe he is gonna be too lazy/busy to write it up.

Hey Daz,

I wouldnt stress out to much mate, if they where going to issue you a ticket they would of done it there and then. Also they have a lack of evidence from what your saying unless they got you on a radar they cant prove how fast you were going. I think they were just trying to scare you bud.
Looking for that ultimate ride??

This is disgusting. I hate police who do things like this. 90% chance its because of the car you drive. Its as much discrimination as pulling someone over cos they're black or on P plates.

I have been pulled over once but it was entirely reasonable (a random check). If I ever get pulled over and accused of something I just hope I can keep my mouth shut.

There may be a chance he was just running a check on the car to make sure it was rego'd/not stolen etc (well, thats what the other officer might have been doing) and decided to give you a scare because he can. Theres no real way of knowing if anything will come about from this... But I wish you luck. :)

Thanks for the support and advice peoples. As most of you have said I think it was some cop out to give someone a scare for the day.

Hopefully you're right Jake although If I were to steal a car I certainly would steal one a little more conspicuous and low key *lol*
I gotta say too that the detective was pretty polite actually and as I said earlier, told me he's got better things to do than chase me around.

Anyway thanks everyone!

Court isnt as huge a deal as it sounds.

When we used to live in the middle of QLD mum had a Audi TT. Bearing in mind the roads out there are VERY long and VERY straight, easily capable of more than their 100km speed limit.

Mum was picked up one day for doing 116km/hr, fair enough she was over the limit. The copper was overly cocky asking if the car was stolen ect before writing a fine. He had to ask what the car was, having no idea of the brand or model ect. Mum just replied with "You work it out". He took down her license details and a week later a court summons was sent out. Im sure the only reason he pulled us over was because it was a sports car and the fact it had NSW plates on it, (the company dad works for bought out the mine in the village, demoting/sacking alot of workers so NSW people really didnt have a good name).

The cops didnt even turn up in court, it was all over before it started. Dont worry about it mate.

I'll be a copper within a year and a bit :) dont worry i'll be fair on the public haha, things like this disgust me and make me sad because this is part of the reason cops have such a horrid reputation.
