Service intervals

Hi guys,

I have done 7700kms in my VRX and I just noticed that on the service sticker it says "next service: 7500kms" and underneath "next oil change: 15000kms" The service indicator on the car is telling me I don't need one for another 8months or 7000kms (or close to it).

So I guess my question is: is there meant to be a service at 7500kms? I got the 1500km service done so 6000kms seems a bit short for another one...

I will ring the dealer aswell, but I just thought I would see if anyone knew so I can stop worrying about it

The compulsory service interval for NA Lancers is 15,000km or 1 year, whatever comes first.

I think the 7,500 km interval is there for the dealer to make some money. That said, I'm hovering around 6,200 km now and am interested to get an oil & filter change for the sake of it. Was checking the oil level the other day and noticed that the oil was reasonably dark.

isn't the 1500km the free check up service and no oil change etc?

if i was you i'd at least change the oil around the 7500km interval.. waiting another 8mnths/7000km means that your first oil change will be at 15,000km and your oil would probably be as black as crap

7500km Service is there for those with Turbo lancers. You can get your oil changed then, but they will charge you a stupid amount for it and isnt nessacery for our NA's. Some people just chose to do it themselves if they have the knoweldge and money to

the thing that threw me was that it said "service @ 7500kms" but "oil change @ 15000kms"...

Not compulsory mate. The sticker can be written wrongly I've done that a couple of times by mistake.... it's just an indication.

However, there is a case for changing oil and filter at 7500km as it does supposedly keep the car running smoother for longer. Only do it with an NA Lancer if you know what you're doing. Or Mitsubishi will charge you $130+ just to do it. And an independent garage around $50-100.

Thanks for the heads up guys, I will call the dealer tomorrow and see if I need to get this done to comply with their warranty conditions or not. If not then I will just go by the onboard computer and wait a bit

I just got an oil change at auto masters at 7,500.
And had my 15,000 service today at mitsu.

Update incase anyone was interested:

The dealer said that the 7500km service was just a "supplementary service" so you don't have to do it if you don't want to.

I might still get it done, better safe than sorry

I think I'm going to do a 6500-ish/half-year service at Midas and leave the yearly ones to Mitsubishi.

May i ask why are people doing oil changes at 7500?? (NA lancers) with the 10yr drivetrain warranty,theres really nothing to worry about if engine does fail as a result of the 15,000 km changes being to far apart??

Just a personal choice thing I reckon. I just do it for the sake of doing it and practice

That's fair enough can understand that guess I was looking at it from my point if view as I rarely keep a car after it's older than 5 years.

I'm planning on handing the car to my dad in about 4-5 years, so I'd rather the car was good overall. There might be no difference whatsoever between doing 7500km or 15000km regular services, but it's for peace of mind.
Also, I noticed that the oil was a bit dark before my last road trip (at around 5500 km), which may be to do with my short daily driving distances.

I'm OK with the non-dealer mechanic using totally replacing the engine with other compatible oils and filters, but I'm a bit worried about them topping up other fluids.
What are your thoughts on this? Should I let them decide, provide the fluids or tell them not to?

EDIT: Battery and windscreen fluids are fine, but it's the brake, radiator and clutch that's a bit iffy.
