Ebay

Postby Nick07 » Wed Dec 15, 2010 6:21 pm

Hey Guys I have always looked around on ebay for general things, but have never brought myself around to buying things. I have finally signed up for an account and a paypal account and am going to purchase a couple of things (1 from Melb and 1 from HK).

I would prefer to have registered post, but I don't know how I would go about getting it, does the seller have to offer it on the original page or does it appear later in the purchasing process.

One seller told me that I have to deposit $2USD into his paypal account to get registered post, is this a normal way of doing this?

Thanks in advance.

Registered post is normally offered on the original page. You may have options like Registered, Normal or Express.
Once you purchase the item, you reach the total costs summary page where you can choose one of those postage options, at which point you click on the Recalculate button to adjust the cost.

The $2USD separate to get registered post is not normal, although possible. It's a pretty weak scam if he scams you out of $2USD though :P

Just general advice, but you are best of paying by Paypal whenever possible. Do not use banking transfer unless you are prepared to lose the cost, as there is no means to recover the costs easily if the seller turns out to be a fraud.

I'm an avid ebayer so here's some tips.

- Before you bid always ask question, whether it be about postage or sizing etc and get the info straight up. Don't wait till check out.

- Try to use paypal if you can, coz you can recover funds incase the sale goes belly up.

- Always check feedback from other ppl when buying from someone. Good indication whether you should buy or not.

That's all I can think of now.

And I think it's weird that requires you to deposit $2USD to get registered post. I've never had to do that and I've been buying from ebay for years. And true if it is a scam it's a crappy one...

Thanks guys, I'm not sure if it's really worth it for a $10 item. But it is coming from HK so I would prefer for it to be registered.

$2 might not seem like much (which is why it is a good scam, if it is one) but if he gets $2 off everyone, he will be a very happy scammer :P

i to am a avid ebayer, just oay with paypal and if you dont recieve the item you will get your maney back....... in 30 or so days. most HK sellers with lots feedback wont be there to rip people anyway, i have purchased everything from $1 items through to $800 graphics cards from HK sellers and as long as you pay with paypal you wont have a problem.
