Not happy with 2.0 litre fuel economy (CVT)

in stop start traffic with a average speed of around 30kph,im getting figures of around 12l/100 with air con off. Wouldnt that be starting to tap into commodore and falcon figures?? My 08 corolla would do 9l/100 in same conditions. with all this technology and MIVEC and CVT supposed to be improving fuel economy,sounds lke a sales gimmic to me??

Start stop traffic will always produce very high results- even in my Civic. I'm pretty sure in practice, the CVT should still be more efficient than an automatic transmission all else being equal.

Honestly Glen, it depends on the week and the situtation for you, don't trust the car on it's on, do your own recordings, fill up next time, record what you started on (KM) and at the end when you refill again.. and calcalute it.

One week my car was saying i only manage to get roughly 420km out of the tank ? when I acuatally did the calculations I did roughly 500kms, not 420kms.. and only ever maxed out 580kms out of a tank.

I'd point out that what you see on your console is hardly accurate. Do it by tank and NOT by the instant numbers you see.

As I said, I've once done well over 600KM on a full tank in a CVT Lancer.

It is normally down to driving style and conditions that effect fuel economy.

I did almost 800km on a tank this week going to Melbourne. I actually did 770km but it took 54L to fill it up.

heya
dont go by what it says on the dash of the car-average fuel consumption. do what Yousif said. fill your tank to the full and run it to empty and count how many kms you get out of a full tank. thats what i do. i do lots of city driving and usually get about 580-600kms before my fuel light comes on.

No probs I'll calculate it by the pump next time. I wish they didn't have that trip computer!! Sorry if i sounded too critical, just got a shock when I looked at the fuel figures. Thanks for the responses. I still love the lancer

Take a look when you first drive off in the morning, should say 20+ L/100K.

There are numerous factors involved:

1) Driving Style - Lead-foot or Sedate.
2) Drive Conditions - Stop/Start or Continuous.
3) Average Distance Traveled in One Log (period).
4) Average Speed maintained over the Distance Traveled.
5) etc etc etc etc etc.

Simply do what the others have suggested,
1) Fill-Up.
2) Note Odometer Reading.
3) Drive as you normally would.
0) You do not need to consume an entire tank of fuel. Half a tank should be sufficient to return an accurate enough reading.
4) Re-Fill Tank.
5) Note Litres of fuel filled.
6) Formula: Litres divided by Kilometers Traveled X 100 = Answer.

Example: Troy: 54L divided by 770 Kms X 100 = 7.01 L/100kms.

it's more the fact that a clutch and gears is more efficient than a torque converter and a belt ;)

Well it has a varicose vein so your on the money there!!!. I guess the good thing about a manual is not only you save around $2500 when you purchase the car, it has fuel economy benefits and you can jump start it,im just a lazy driver thats why i have always had a auto. :)
