MK5 VW Polo GTi!

Postby squala » Tue Nov 30, 2010 12:19 am

This car will be coming to Australia soon. Essentially a miniaturised Golf, the Polo GTi boasts big-six beating 0-100 acceleration with a starting price of < $30K. The car will be available in 3- and 5-door variants and feature the technologically advanced DSG as standard.

The 1.4-litre motor, with the assistance of both supercharger and turbo, is good for 132kw, does 0-100 in 6.9 seconds yet averages only 6.1l/100km.

It's really a tempting deal and I've booked my interest for a test drive.

The Colt doesn't have much over the Polo. The Polo is turbo supercharged, where the RA Colt is just a turbo. Add to that German engineering and it'll be quiet a different box to the Colt.

And yes, it's be the MK5.

@132kW, lightweight, turbo supercharged, it'll easily take one of Lancers off the line and down the straight. :(

And for once, the styling of the Polo actually looks somewhat decent.

I really like it :D, in fact I like most of the VW range these days specially the Golf R32 (or 36 something like that) that they shoehorn a massive 6 cycl motor into :P

I think the new Golf line isn't as spectacularly awesome though with the Golf R (successor to R32) having the same engine as the GTI but tuned with a few go fast bits. Yes that's the same as the RA/Evo relationship, but there was something novel about having a 3.2L V6 in a Golf.

Saw one the other day in Blue, damn it was nice but $75,000 is a bit prohibitive at the moment :( wish the CJ came in a wagon and not just the sportback.

it reminds me of a crazy Mirage that had a 4G63 evo engine... :p

that said...the MK5 Golf has a really crap (auto) gearbox which dies around 80-100k kms. So, it's not perfect.

aside from that, they are extremely good cars. you certainly get what you pay for.

I never really understood how the location where something is made 'automatically' determined the quality of the final product lol.

You would obviously assume there would be a shift in quality because the main reason behind moving production is cost cutting?
