Rear wing visibility

For all the low rise spoilers it'll really depend on your height/seating position/mirror position but in all honesty, it shouldn't make that much difference since they're OEM spoilers.

However with high rise spoilers (e.g. Evo spoiler), they do block your vision quite clearly but you learn to accept it and use your side mirrors more to look past the spoiler. It's especially difficult at night when you rely on seeing the light beams to know if someone is there, and depending on the angle/design of the spoiler, it can block the light in the middle of your mirror which gives the illusion noone is there... hence again you learn to move your head/angle yourself as you check the mirror (so you can see above/below the wing) or use the side mirrors more.

If you look at it purely from an optics point of view alot of things effect your line of sight. A wing on the back of your car is like a line which will block out the view from your rear view mirror.

Several factors will affect things.

Wing Related:
1. The height of the wing
2. The incline of the wing
3. The thickness of the wing body

Personal
4. The ride height of your car
5. The height of you
6. The height of your seat
7. The way you angle your rear view mirror

External Factors
8. The distance of the car behind you.

Different people will report different things. So it's not possible to really get a one size fits all solution. Surely the Lip and Activ spoilers will bother no one. So it's really between the RX, VRX and Evo spoilers.

To date everyone has complained that the VRX spoiler blocks view out of the rear window. My brother says he doesn't have a problem with the VRX spoiler but i do.

I think you need to go for a meet. Sit in someone's car and see for yourself. A camera and pictures will NOT work for the personal reasons I spelt out.

as been said, it all depends on how you sit in the car, When was test driving the Lancer, i drove a White VRX and i looked over the wing, then i drove a Red VRX and i was looking under the Wing. But when i got the car home and changed the seating and mirror positions i found the wing was right in the midddle of my vision.

But for the most part I think it does block your vision a bit, but you learn to compensate for it. Besides, it also means everytime you look up you can see your beauty

My VRX wing for me is a bugger. It sits right in the general line of sight for me.

VRX spoilers and above everyone has had that problem. Adjust your mirror and learn to live with it. If your short, Yellow Pages is your friend; If your tall, Yellow Pages is just a phone book

Having your spoiler blocking some of your rear vision does have a benefit; you wont get blinded by the driver behind you if they have stupidly bright headlights

I agree with Irving, picture certainly isn't the best way to tell.

There's the factor that the camera lens won't be in the same place as your eyes would be.

On top of the factors of height, seating position, mirror position.

My car is lowered by 50mm, the RX wing is about the same height as the Activ wing going by measurement alone. but the profile of it is completely different.

It's worth noting that I can barely fit my hand under the wing with a chamois around it which can make it tough to dry after washing if you have big hands.
With the way I sit and have my mirror set I have only avery small amount of view under it due to it's shape and the shape of the rear seat and shelf. I can't see the headlights of most cars any closer then about 1-1.5 car lengths and stopped in traffic I can't see them at all.

Like Jeff said, I see this as a bonus as I don't get dazzled as much by stupidly bright lights (or 'tards' driving with their fogs on in clear weather). It's not just the wing though, it's the whole shape of the back of the car.
Also as he said, I use my side mirrors a LOT to check for indicators and such. There's a good reason for the size of them and the very slight 'fisheye'. I even reverse using my wing mirrors and I park my car tail in almost all the time.

Agreed. The wing mirrors become far more useful. That being said you still gotta check the rear view mirror (forgot proper term for it) to make sure there's nothing like a pole in the way! I've hit a pole before whilst reversing when it was the only pole in the parking lot and it was smack bang in the centre where my blind spot was.

i took the vrx spoiler off coz i found it blocked some 30% of my view.
looks great, not real practical, on FWD cars

i have a high rise spoiler.... completes the look of the car with spoiler like the VRX but does not obstruct the view...
