Shell servos & Biofuel(Ethanol Content) Amendment Act 20

Postby The X » Sat Aug 14, 2010 9:07 am

Just a heads up....
Went to fill up last night (first time in 1.5 weeks). Got a bit of a price shock...
Looks like Shell are phasing out regular unleaded (RON 91) - with some notice at the bowser advising the changes are due to NSW legislation.

So no more Regular RON91 "cheap" fuel it seems....
Choices are
RON 91 with 10% Ethanol
RON 95 was "Premium ULP" now is Regular Shell unleaded at the PRUMIUM price!
RON 98 - still their top of their line V-power product.

I opted for the RON95 at 127.5 instead of what I'd expect to pay for what I used to fill up with RON91 (no ethanol) @ 119.9

I was most unhappy.

Any other servos starting to roll this out yet??

Legislation mandates the change in July NEXT YEAR. Looks like I'll be filling my car at quality brand servos that still offer regular RON91.....

Yes RON 91 is progressively being phased out, particularly anywhere near the sydney cbd. ive found a few places still on plain 91 as you head out west towards parra

Folks don't forget that your car will run much better on 95 than on 91. It'll be more responsive and return better kms/litre. You'll find that the 7 cents per litre will offset with the better fuel economy. So you'll have nothing to worry about.

Cheers
John

Well, I've been using 95 extensively for the past 8000km.

Here in QLD its a 9c difference. You certainly don't get that back in terms of mileage. Back when it used to be 5c difference yes. I would say 5% mileage increase if anything.

Though personally I think the engine runs smoother and it is better for the car in the long run to use premium petrol over E10.

Officially the power/torque figures for the 4B11 running on 95 RON is 114kw and 199Nm. Not that I notice it anyway :S

After my recent trip to Sydney I can see what you guys are talking about, not one servo I found sold plain 91 RON. That being said DAMN you guys get cheap fuel in syd/newcastle I filled up in campbelltown and Raymond terrace and paid 124.9c/L for 98 RON, up here we can not even get the E10 crap for that (E10 is 127.9c/L) and 98 RON you are looking at the 145.9 - 150.9c/L mark :(:( hence the reason I still run 91 for the time been.

the big servo at Yass has had the RON 91 with 10% ethenol for over a year now.

i have tried a few tank full of each fuel 91, 95 and 98 and i also reset the ECU after a swapped fuels and i noticed NO diffrence what so ever.

well, if that's the case, I'll just get a nicer amount to claim on my tax return. a good amount of my car expenses is for work (though I still have to fork out the money first). :p so if I'm "forced" to fill up on RON95...bummer (hehe)

seriously though, that sucks...but I guess from a business perspective, why run RON91 E10 and RON91 straight?

anyway, from a personal perspective, that's not cool.
