Hi Guys,
I'm new to this whole scene and decided to post up a topic to get opinions from more experienced people.
I'm going to buy my FIRST new car; I'm not very knowledgeable on the subject but I've at least narrowed it down to wanting the Lancer.
What I want in a car is basically something that will be fuel efficient and have a very attractive exterior look.
I stumbled across a Mitsubishi dealer that 'exclusively' sell "Lancer R's". Which is essentially an ES with an EVO X full body kit including 18inch wheels.
This has caught my attention because although I do like the 3 stock lancer models, the only thing that is really turning me off from the car is the front bumper. (no offence to anyone who thinks otherwise)
I did remember seeing a topic on here about getting a RA front bumper installed onto a VRX but it all seemed too messy and too much of a headache to organise.
This dealer apparently does the job and has labelled the car Lancer R.
Now my question is, how much do you think a car like that would go for? I've been emailing the sales rep but they're being very secretive about the costs and prefer to have a sit down conversation with me.
Which I don't mind, but I'd rather go in there having some sort of knowledge of features and prices etc just so I don't seem like a complete idiot and get taken advantaged of! (I am pretty clueless when it comes to cars though)
I do like the features of the VRX over the VR's and ES's though but I don't need that unneccessary power. ie 2.4 litre engine.
Would it be cheaper if I were to opt for the ES with EVO X body kit whilst adding some features of the VRX such as: smart key entry, audio controls on steering wheel, dusk sensing head lamps, rain sensing wipers and Rockford Fosgate audio system?
Or would it be better to request the EVO X body kit to be installed on the VRX instead?
Is there even a significant difference in fuel consumption between the two?
Any feedback is welcome, positive or negative, as I really have no clue what I'm doing. =)
Cheers.

Personally I wouldn't get an ES with an EVO kit on it.. Not that it matters.. But you may cop some slack from people when they find out it isint one. Some also label it "Evo Poser" - The engine, badge and the sound of the exhaust are going to be big giveaways. You would be better off going for a better model.
Though at the end of the day Its your choice and as long as you are happy then that's all that matters.

Leo stated:
Get the 2.4L. The fuel consumption isn't that much more and either is the power. 2.0L = 113Kw's & 2.4L = 125Kw's.
At the end of the day, a few quick power squirts in a 2.0L is going to consume on par with a 2.4L. The diff is only marginal.
Leo stated:
Smart Key = Not Possible on a ES (and if it is, then very costly)
Rockford Fosgate = Possible, but very costly (aftermarket is a better/cheaper option)
Dusk Sensing Head Lamps, Rain Sensing Wipers = Not Possible on a ES (and if it is , then very costly)
Audio Controls on Steering Wheel = Possible, reasonable cost.
Fitting these items to an ES or VR, is not a very feasable or viable choice.
The total cost of such items is not a wise solution in terms of value inclusions in a base model.
Your far better off buying a VRX which comes standard with most of these features plus a whole lot more and dress up the car with an aftermarket body kit of preference.
As Tadz mentioned, its a XDC Kit. Marketed as "R" by Sydney City Mitsu and the same kit is available at Suttons Mitsu at Arncliffe.

You can add the audio controls cheaply. It's a A$105 part from us. The Rockford may also be added but it doesn't come cheap, probably A$800 for a 2nd hand set or A$1100 new?
However, you cannot retrospectively add the rest like the smartkey, the dusk sensing head lamps and the rain sensing wipers.
Have you considered buying a 2nd hand VRX? You'll save a good A$5K off the price at least. Recently one of the boys paid A$26K for a MY08 VRX. You can then use the savings to get an Evo body kit or something... .
