My Parcel shelf would rattle (partly due to my subs ) if I didn't have pieces of felt wedged between it and the rear glass.

blu_art wrote:3)Rattle that comes from passenger side glove box is caused by the bottom cover which is under the glove box. Remove this bottom cover by removing the two clips. add some tape around two pointy plastics on the botom cover & then add a thin layer or padding on top of the bottom cover. Now put it back & put two clips.
Yes I forgot to mention I did this too. When I installed my mirrors I found that this piece was loose causing a bit of rattling - however taping it I found didn't stop the rattles from the glovebox completely so my method of wiring up the glovebox piston works.
I suppose I only get the stereo rattle on bumpy country rods where the temperature is quite low... hardly ever, even less so the instrument rattle. On normal city driving/highways I don't hear a thing.
For YOU GUYS with the DOOR RATTLES: What I found with our Outlander was that the tinting people broke one of the clips that hold the WHITE DOOR CLIP into the door. This caused the WHITE CLIP to be loose and fall out to the bottom cavity of the door - rattling whenever you drive on certain rougher roads above a certain speed.
If you think you have a rattle in the door - I suggest taking it apart and checking to see if there is anything floating at the bottom of the door cavity - AND check to see if all the white clips are still in place!
Hope this helps some people.

I bought an Activ in April this year. Within 3 months I had rattles! Very disappointing to say the least. Couldn't believe it when I found this post, with people having problems in the same areas as myself.
I have an IRRITATING rattle coming from the passenger side vent area, possibly the glove box, however it doesn't seem like there is any problem with it. Plastic on plastic, like something is loose. Too scared to remove anything for the fear that the rattle will bring 3 more friends along. Also, had a creaking noise from the rear passenger side of the car, when turning the corner or an incline or decline from driveways. Contacted my Mitsu dealer, and discussed the creaking along with OTHER problems (rattling front windows when 1/4 or 1/2 open, and faulty bluetooth system), and since then, have not heard the creek once. Fingers crossed it doesn't return. However before i went to the dealer, I did notice my rear bumper made a creek when i pushed it up, so i'm assuming they may have tightened the bumper. They are also replacing the front windows AND bluetooth system. Apparently the windows are a KNOWN issue in the OUTLANDER but not the Lancer. Not sure of what to do with the dash noise, perhaps just pretend it doesn't exist, or wear earplugs?

rattles try a front end squeak which turned out to be both front strut top plates were shot at 1300 kilometres.
A thud/thump and creak sound in the trunk/boot area turned out to be an area where the spot weld failed, it had to be repaired under warranty took almost a full week.
the C pillar airbag plastic covers were constantly falling off, luckily yesterday the head mecanic at a DIFFERENT mitsu dealership fixed the problem. window tinters break the retaining clips and it does'nt show off till they get a little abbraded by vibrations.
and all the others you mentionned are there, but particularly the front door handles area.

I've noticed my car has a lot of rattles even since it was new
Bit of a pity but from what I can tell in reading reviews in magazines (I think it was MOTOR?), the Evo X actually involves quite a lot of manual labour in the construction/assembly process which probably explains the inconsistencies.
That being said, it's still better than my Mum's Jaguar which has varying gaps everywhere!

Here is what specialist guys are saying about lancer dashboard:
Under dash space:
Wires - bare without anti-rattle braids, and indeed the dashboard consists of many pieces, which rub against each other, creating sounds. Moreover, the dashboard doesn't have enough fasteners to the frame (which we counted about 8 pieces only), which further stimulates her "walk" on the bumps.
Full story on dashboard soundproofing (sorry it is in Russian)

I would love to do the same, just not sure how to disassemble and then put it back.
