I bought a Lancer VRX demo about 3 weeks ago and I just found out that it is a 2009 model instead of 2010 model. The dealer told me it was a demo but did not say if it was a 2009 or 2010 one, so assumed it was a 2010 model and it was not specified in the contract either.
I called the dealer today and he said he could not do anything about it. Does anyone know if I might get a chance to get the car changed? as I believe the trouble was caused because the dealer didn't provide enough information when I was purchasing it.
Any suggestion is appreciated.

The specific car will be mentioned in the contract, along with its VIN and build date. If those are correct then the contract is valid.
If you didn't discuss the actual model year with the dealer prior to purchase and knew that you were buying a second hand car, then there's nothing else that can be done. The dealer hasn't done anything wrong either.
Assuming is not knowing sorry to say.

Bandit is very correct here.
So long as the VIN of the car matches the one your signed contract stated, you cannot do anything.
You assumed which this whole case is based upon and as such you cannot do anything about it.
The seller doesn't need to tell you anything you don't ask for.
The responsibility is NOT on the seller. It's on the buyer who is buying.

I think that's very uncalled for.
It's got nothing to do with the country.
Actually, buyers are protected more than sellers in Australia. There are things such as cooling off periods which don't exist elsewhere.

There's a reason that the dealer was selling a demonstrator - it was the previous model.
that's how i got mine, new 09 models came out, so i got a demo 08, good thing about mine it was never driven so it was still brand new, i test drove it at like 2Km on the odometer

I don't really think it matters what country you live in. There is a couple of sayings.... to assume makes and ass out of u and me. Also there is a reason that they say you are about to sign your life away.. it is imperative that you take note of what you are signing.
When I purchased my car all the details are filled out on the contract, if they are not then you should really ensure they are before committing to anything.
It isn't really hard to ask what year the car is.
I asked what month mine was built before we even started filling out contracts. The guy showed me the stock list and we got the newest one they had
