Insurance

Postby mchvrx » Fri Jul 09, 2010 10:03 pm

I am moving to the Gold Coast from NSW, and my NRMA comprehensive insurance is dropping by $700.

Thats enough reason to leave NSW!

@Mitch, no need to be surprise. Car insurance in QLD is much cheaper compare to NSW. On top of that you don't need to worry about shopping for the cheapest CTP as all insurance company are the same price. All you need to do is tell Queensland Transport which company to go for and pay you rego and CTP together. There is also no such things as getting a Pink Slip before renewing your rego. Instead you need to get your car checked "Road Worthy Certificate" before selling your car.

NRMA is so small in QLD, only 2 offices, you should chekout RACQ.

Welcome to QLD, highest road taxes, but lowest insurance!

Actually, insurance is subjective too.. here in QLD, NRMA works out cheapest for me... but that has a lot of 'circumstance' attached to it...

You might find that NRMA continues to serve you best, depending on what 'loyalty' they give 'you' once you move.. don't discount them purely on office space.. I do all my stuff online with them.

Good luck and hope you get a 'much better deal no matter where you shop'.

Not everyone is comfortable with doing things online and sometimes you just needed to go and talk to them face to face. Having only 2 offices meant is not as convenient. But one thing for sure, NRMA did suggested to me to convert my roadside membership over to RACQ which is for free. At the end of the day if i do ask NRMA for roadside help, it would still be RACQ turning up.

I don't think that moving to QLD is the reason why your premium is so cheap. I was with GIO and when I went to shop around I found the NRMA where $700 cheaper than GIO's renewal. I talked to GIO about price matching and they simply couldn't come close. I suspect NRMA are simply very competitive at the moment.

More than likely the case, they might simply want to try to move in on that market by undercutting.. meaning your next year's price might be higher..

All State/Territory Automobile Associations have a reciprocal agreement to honour your Roadside Assist membership...

I think when you have 8 policies, like me, with the NRMA... they do you nice deals.

Also has to do with location rather than state. I moved to a house about 20kms away and my insurance went up $200pa.

On my Outlander AAMI was 1/2 the price of NRMA, the lancer is vice versa...
