x gsr track car - the beginning!

Postby mr_evo » Fri Jul 02, 2010 7:25 pm

Hey guys, My partner and I have decided that we are going to make our X into a track car.
We were going to sell it, but now we have bigger plans.
Not going too crazy at this point in time.
Interior will be getting stripped, but not the front doors or the passenger seat... As I will still be driving it some of the time :)

Not meaning to rain on your parade, but you do know your canards on the sides of your front bumper are illegal in QLD don't you?

mate , instead of those ARC IC Piping , you should just go straight for a 3" turboback exhaust with testpipe and a tune , that should nett you sufficient power to start off with. Adding an IC pipe won't change much if you don't get a tune and stock exhaust is too damn restrictive.

if your seriously gonna track the car hard , skip the springs and go straight to coils, gives you way more options to play with to match your driving style etc

as for brakes , consider getting new brake lines and brake fluids.

instead of heading straight to semi slicks which are super expensive , get yourself a set of decent track tyres , maybe like the Kumho KU36 to start off with as their cheap and you'd probably be better to learn with them then improve your time with semi slicks

this is what i would do if i were to start tracking the X , good to see your getting your X for good and giving it more love :D

canards are illegal if they stick out past your guards.... Mine don't. I already went into QLD transport and showed them my car and they said it's all good.
I am getting a full 3" turbo back, it should be on my list...
I already have braided brake lines :)
coilovers will have to wait for a while :P
I'm looking into Re55's and KU36's for tyres and some other tyres...
I still have my test pipe but I'm not sure if some tracks allow cars to use test pipes...?
um yeh thats all I can think of for now :) my head hurts
Who wants to help me strip the car?? :)
I would love some helpers, send e a msg
:D I'm back baby! :D

Just stripped out all the interior, including rear seat and back rest, head rests, rear parcel shelf, air bar J panel, carpet in boot, tyre repair kit, all panels in the boot, and all trimmings in the rear of the car behind the drivers and passengers seats.... I think with everything I removed I have saved about 80kg or more. There is a lot of weight in the back support of the rear passengers seat, it is reinforced with steel bars and has a lot of weight in it, as do the seat belt harness's and the tyre repair kit :) Will post pics up later on

As it will be track only.... Are you allowed to take out the airbags?

morbid curiosity,

why wouldn't you sell the car,

buy a brand new RS for that coin,

and even have left overs.

and you get a brand spanker.

becuase if you turn it into a track car are you able to register it with a cage etc in QLD,

its a track car i believe he is making it so he can only use it for track, no airbags racing harness no rear seat. ect

and on ryans post you can register a car with a cage as long as the rest of the car is street legal.

but seeing as Jason is getting a car tralier i dont think hes wanting to keep it road legal.

Doesn't Ralliart/TMR sell like a $48k Evo for track use only?
