Unmarked mobile revenue raisers coming to NSW....

Postby smithsy » Tue Jun 29, 2010 12:51 pm

Coming to NSW from 19th of July I believe ;)

They are operated by a private contractor, so I'd say they will be completely unmarked but still have their little speed check sign in front of the vehicle....

Guess this is how you fill the $500million CBD metro hole underneath the city....

Will the program be covert?

No, the cameras will not be hidden, however, their locations will be less predictable than fixed speed cameras. Drivers are reminded they should not exceed the speed limit regardless of the presence of enforcement.

Will signage be installed warning motorists on the approach to the cameras?

There will be signage after the mobile speed camera vehicle to alert drivers that their speed has been checked so they have the opportunity to modify their behaviour. There will be no advance warning on the approach to cameras.

They say it will not be covert in one statement then in the following one state that no advance warning will be given, sounds pretty covert to me.

So I guess every time I see a parked car on the side of the road I will have to look down and make sure I am not exceeding the limit. I hate the fact that it is private contracting these buggers will be as sneaky as possible as it will be money in their pockets.

Yes, but it will save lives... :?

Another blatant attempt to get money.

more lives would be saved fixing the damn roads, having to swerve to miss a huge whole in the road is more dangerous than someone dong say 10 kph over the limit. And a warning to all watch both school zones and road works areas I have a feeling that these would be very popular places for them to setup, particularly road works as many people tend to ignore the the speed limits around them.

Yup being digital will mean they'll go to infra-red flashes alike the fixed speed cameras and not the big white xenon flashes that they used to have! So now you won't even know if you've been flashed by a parked car!

Yea no good mate no good.

Like in the UK where more accidents were caused by people spending too much time looking at their speedos drawing their attention from hazards on the road such as a kid falling off his bike.

Say goodbye to your car when they detect it...

10 demerit points and several thousand $ fine. That being said the radar detector detectors can't detect the decent radar detectors these days because they leave/exert no RFI signatures...

Damn thing will still speed down hills unfortunately Stacey and the people running the speed cams would now it too, as you may have guessed I am not a fan of private contractors using speed cameras.
