Flashing Signatures.....

Postby bryzabone » Sun Jun 27, 2010 11:32 am

Hi guys,
i'm not normally one to have a whinge, but i do notice something lately on clubcj, that bugs the hell out of me,
A lot of us have text only sig's, and some have pics n the signature too. this is all fine.
What really bugs the c**p outta me are the flashing, the blinking, and ever changing pictures. I'm trying to read a post, and its like a freakin ad, flashing away in my field of view.
Its extremely offputting, and i submit to other members to voice their opinion on the non-static signatures.
I for one think no animation in the signature of any kind, for the sake of ease of reading/useability of the threads.

sorry for the rant here guys, and i by no means wish to offend anyone with this thread, or single out any other member. :(
For every "Drive Safely" sign, shouldn't there be a "Resume Normal Driving" sign?

My signature was made and by a member of the admin team and it flashes :P

I think it is time for a (non animated) update though, I'll have a play in photoshop when I have time :)

I have to say, as a new member, there seems to be a lot of clutter about.

Its annoying and you cant turn them off. Does take abit of page loading time too, not so fun when you over your broadband cap and internet more slower than two turtles in intimate times... Though dont get mad, get even  . Create a flashy thing that flashes something they dont want to see.

All flashy things though is just fluff.

I agree, I much preferred the site ~6 months ago when it was simpler to use

Perhaps there could be a feature made to disable avatars/signatures for those with slow/capped internet connections?

They only annoy me when my internet is capped... I don't find any of the current ones distracting.

Makes sense to have a show/hide signatures feature. :)

The signatures themself would just be a .gif file which would load once then loop infinitely (unless specified to only loop x amount of times) so once it's loaded it shouldnt have any effect on internet usage, but if your pc is from the stone ages it could effect performance :P

by the way jake, recognise my new sig? :P

That could be an option. Maybe have some sort of "FULL" and "BASIC" view.
Seems a bit redundant to have both the profile avatar and signature in some cases. It all probably comes down to the forum provider being uses and the available settings.
If you have a look at www.whirlpool.net.au, it's basic but gets to the point. They have an option of "Whirlpool Plus" which allows for more colourful features and avatars.

just dont delete your temp internet files, all pictures that are loaded are stored, and turn cookies on. so when you next load a page with that picture in it, it wont have to download it first it just has to retrieve it from your temp files.

Yes I do and I like it :P I was deliberately trying to get some cornering pics...

And yeah I know how gifs work... But when my net is capped everything hangs while it tries to load the gif and then it gives up halfway through anyway and only loops part of it over and over

I don't mind too much however, its my fault for having capped internet not other people's for having sigs.
