Gotta love being run off the road........

Postby bunnishiwa » Wed Jun 02, 2010 6:36 pm

Hi,

Is there a ClubCJ crash curse happening that I'm not aware of? Joined the club today unfortunately :?

Inside lane past some lights doing 50km's and accelerating, with a nice clear lane ahead. Guy in the Holden SS ute thought so too and decided he'd change lanes - had he not been right next to me this would have been cool....

The positive is I discovered that I have the reflexes of a cat on caffine - swerved to the left, hitting the brakes, up the high kerb and through a 'no standing' sign on a steel pole. Must have slowed the car reasonably, as the airbags didn't trigger. Fortunately council regs mean that the pole was not securely concreted into the ground

Came to a stop to see the ute driver racing off into the distance, looking at me in the rear view - ran me off the road and he knew it, and didn't stop - that's what caused me to reference with a comment regarding conjugal visits with his mother, several times...

And top this - went to Franga police station to report him and half way through making a report the station was evacuated!!! Got to go back tomorrow to finish it.

Two witnesses though, and a rego - MORGIE what sort of stupidity is involved in driving off from an accident with a private plate???

Doesn't look too bad from the shots, although you can't see the cracked grills and how 'creased' the dent in the bonnet is, , and the wheel alignment is f'd, but reckon I'd be looking at a new bumper and a new bonnet? Any expert opinions more than welcome.

Q - if the bumper does need replacing can anyone let me know whether I'd be able to get a RA bumper? Sure I read that someone here did that

You will need to pay a lot extra for the RA bumper, but it is at the discretion of the repairer.

Sorry to hear mate, but at least you are ok...

I can't believe how many stacks there have been lately

Doesn't Ofey have a front bumper for sale.

Buy his and pocket the cash. It would help him as well which would be great as he does so much for every one else.

Best of luck with the repairs.

My mrs was almost involved in a head on a couple of days ago when some jackass decided he had enough room to overtake on the highway.

It all makes sense now I read about this curse....

Car just about driveable, and the pictures don't do the damage justice. Also doesn't show how far out of wack the passenger wheel is - steering straight on the way home was a struggle (50km's along quiet back roads) as that wheel went up the steep enbankment and (hopefully only) the alignment is hugely out of wack.

Getting car wheel checked out this morning, then if all good going up to the nearest Mits dealer (Mornington) to get damage assessed and a heads up on what can be repaired and what can be replaced, and how much.

(will the insurance cover my chrome surround and bumper blackout? lol)

Regarding the other driver - police report filed so hopefully he gets a nice visit and court case/fine/points

Airbags are tripped off based on vehicle speed and also the G-force of the crash (ie how fast the car's decceleration speed is). Hitting a no standing sign (which alike most street signs, etc only have a small blob of concrete under them) will either bend or shear the hole or rip it and the concrete from the ground. Because there is minimal amount of vehicle decelleration your airbags wont go off. Even hitting a metal light pole shouldnt trip the air bags as those poles are designed to just shear off where they bolt into the conrete on the ground (only recently I saw a old Barina had mounted the kerb and cleaned out a hole, there was minimal damage to it).

As for insurance I hope that all goes good for you, but even with witnesses it will be interesting to see what the police do. I've known a friend who ran off the road because someone pulled out in front of her and the police charged her with neg driving for running off the road (ie. she should of just stayed on the road and hit the other car according to the police/law :S).

Also if you mounted the kerb chances are there is damage to the suspension/underbody of the car. Might be worth claiming on your insurance rather than trying to do it yourself via a dealer.
