My accident, Nov 21 2007. Insurer RACQ (queensland)
My car was hit by a Merc 4WD doing 100 in 60km zone AND on the shoulder of the road.
He was speeding and not driving in a lane.
He also gave me his details and then left before the cops arrived. the police tried to breath test my father thinking he was the merc driver.
My insurance was pulled. I had no cover. no GAP insurance was paid out.
Ive just finished payong out my car that was on finance.
Im still paying off the $70 000 Mercedes

That just sucks. Not sure why you weren't covered by CTP for the other guy's car even if they said you were at fault.
"A man who stands for nothing, falls for anything."
Matt... omg that's horrible!
I can't believe RACQ treated you so harshly, that can't be for no reason surely??
I was with RACWA at the time of my accident, and they were great - but it may have been a different story had i not had a witness. Although i wouldn't have had my insurance cancelled, just had to pay my excess and lose my no claim bonus.
How can they cancel insurance, that's what you have it for regardless of fault?

Jace - CTP is only cover for people. It would have covered any injuries caused by the accident.
Comprehensive will cover your car and anything else on the policy ( towing, accommodation, other peoples property etc ) .
Fitter that is strange, obviously there is more to that story, plus it is RACQ / NRMA - enough said. They cancelled one of their customers portfolios for stealing a cup of coffee 4 years ago and if that person had a claim - it would have been denied regardless on who was at fault.

Love that car!
because my insurance was totally pulled i had "no insurance"
his car was written off aswell. i coudlve had it fixed for about $5k but they sold it at auction as a repairable write off before i could get my quote to them.
in all the correspondance, Suncorp (his insurer) admitted they "went for me" cos i was a young hoon. when i politely told them that i was 25 worked full time and my car was a 1999 Ford laser sedan, their reply was "oh crap, we are so sorry, we thought u were some young P plater so we took you for all we could"

This make no sense. If they were not insuring your car they could not sell it.
They can only sell it after they pay you out, meaning the car is theirs.
